Early Access - B-17: What it couldn't do
Added 2019-08-27 21:47:39 +0000 UTC
Hey all,
First of all, if possible, I'd like to ask all of you when this video comes out on Thrusday this week (29th) to share it as much as possible over the coming days. Sadly YouTube has manually reviewed it and limited ads on it, which means it will most likely have low views. As this is a sponsored video, this will reflect poorly on me and might complicate things with the sponsor. Sharing the video in several places post-launch over several days would thus be very appreciated!
But without further ado, here is your early access! Hope you enjoy!

Hi, Chris,
I had to spend about 15 minutes, scrolling in Patreon, to find this video. YouTube did serve it up to me, in their little grid of suggested videos, that fills the video frame at the end of another video (in this case, one of comedy singer songwriter Mitch Benn's songs. He's in the UK, and well worth a listen. I'm in the US, so I don't get many of the specific political references, but I still enjoy him.).
I grew up an outright fan of the US Air Force, and the Army Air Corps before it, because my Dad was a jet fighter pilot. So I was inclined to agree that the B-17, and the B-24 were great successes in bombing the Third Reich.
But decades ago, in a historic background booklet that came with the Avalon Hill war game Luftwaffe, I read otherwise.
The allies had concentrated bombing efforts on various industries, but mostly on aircraft production. Yet this booklet said German aircraft production, of fighters, at least, rose throughout the strategic bombing effort.
I have since read and hear others say much the same thing. Maybe these days, with "smart" weapons, taking out industrial targets is practical.
What have your sources said? Given your limited time, I understand your sticking more to the operations of aircraft, and maybe not so much on their large-scale overall effects.

Thanks Julian, for the last video the issue was also that the primary audio recorder had failed. All went as intended this time around :)

Another excellently informative video and the sound quality much improved. You sounded like you were lecturing me in my front room, rather than an echo chamber :-)
