Behind-The-Cockpit 1.4: Anything that can go wrong, will...

Hey all,

So, my quest to learn my camera and get the best out of it continues. Today saw some success, and some failures. The success story is a short one and you can see it above.

One of the things that needs to improve in my videos is the intro. These need to capture the viewer, show him what he can expect and show the quality of what is to come. I filmed the 'true' intro yesterday and this short clip is sort of the bridge between that one and the main video. This worked out nicely.

Sadly, the main part I wanted to film today was a failure. I talked through the Swiss Air Force's history from 1939-mid 1940. The content was good, although a bit rambly (still working on that) but the visuals on the main camera were completely out of focus (I am using two cameras now for different angles). This was an oversight on my side. Having set a very narrow depth of field (you can see it in the clip above just that it was on purpose there), the margin of error of being in or out of focus resulted in my sofa being crystal clear while me on it becoming a blurred mess. Frustrating.

These teething problems notwithstanding, I now know what's up and will try again tomorrow. The aim is to complete all clips right up to 1943 on Sunday and start editing this together. Once that is done, I'll go through 1944 which is still a major part and then hop into 1945 for a quick finale!

I hope to have another update for all of you tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed that it all goes well this time.
