Hey all,
Sat down this morning to make good my accidental deletion of the audio file the other day with a full retake of the book review.
For a short synopsis:
Both Richard Overy's and Ian Philpott's book revolve around the formation of the RAF on 1st April 1918.
Recently published, Overy's book tells history in a compact manner, enough to allow the reader to understand the general history but nevertheless lacking in depth and context. Considering it was published most likely as a quick-read, this is not all too surprising.
Philpott's book is different. Presenting a complete study from pre-WW1 British aviation (+ balloons) over to the formation of the RAF, the book also recounts organisation, adminsitration, equipment, training and basing of the worlds oldest air force. It is a serious read for the interested.
Hope you enjoy,
Bis
