Vote for the Future of MonkeyDM Content (New D&D Rules)
Added 2024-09-19 12:00:15 +0000 UTCHello everyone,
Now that the PHB 2024 has been released, how would you like us to proceed forward with the content?
Option 1: We don't change anything and keep doing 5e content
Option 2: We transition fully to the new rules
Option 3: We offer both versions
So far it seems that WotC will stick to their promise to offer a new SRD, which means we can freely make content for the new version of the game.
These new rules are fairly backwards compatible, meaning that apart from a few specifics (such as Passive Perception, which currently doesn't do anything) most content can be adapted to 5.5e fairly easily.
The main changes are the level at which subclasses get their abilities, the change from race to species, the effect of backgrounds, and the various type of feats.
Let me know your thoughts!
Best,
Evan | MonkeyDM

Are you gonna be re releasing your older homebrews from old compodiums? I wanna have all the older subclasses and spells and races updated!! I especially loved the bone sorcerer

2024-09-20 12:44:03 +0000 UTCI would like both, but if it’s too much on you then I would prefer 5e as my group plan to stay with 5e for now. However, if the majority decide they want the new stuff then I would be fine with the switch as I could just transfer it back into the 5e system.

2024-09-19 16:40:14 +0000 UTCYou will need to switch to the 2024 PHB eventually if you want to make this sustainable. The more content that is released, the more people will ger accustomed to the new ruleset. And soon enough it will be expected for new content to reference the 2024 PHB.

2024-09-19 16:11:59 +0000 UTCGiven how much kickstarter content for 5e I'll have I would like 5e content however both might also be good if not a massive pain. How much of a difference would there be?

2024-09-19 13:27:07 +0000 UTCI mean, either do both or just stick to 2014, I haven't MET anyone who liked 2024 phb, at all.

2024-09-19 12:49:43 +0000 UTCI think it would be foolish to stick to PHB 2014. How many people stuck to DnD 3 for an extended period of time after 3.5 came out? I just don't see PHB 2024 as the equivalent of DnD 4, which was a huge change that most people didn't love at a time when the game was not attracting large numbers of new players anyway. Yes, it will be six months before my 2 current 5e campaigns wrap up, but my players all want to move to 2024 right after. In fact, seven of them are starting a new campaign with me next week especially to try the new ruleset. WOTC still rules the roost when it comes to RPGs and they will be pushing the 2024 rules hard. As much as I love the games that came out in the wake of the OGL debacle, none of them are destined to grow nearly as fast as DnD 2024 will.
