Rumors -2- Learn to Code

Apologies for taking so long on this, but I really poured myself into it. Also had a rough week after traveling. Then (if weren't in the discord to see the announcement) Annalise was born on New Year's. We missed our additional tax credit window of 2020, but we did have the first baby girl born in 2021! ...in Fort Worth.

Yay.

Everyone is doing great, just dealing with fatigue, a newborn, and getting the kids back into the routine of physically being at a place called 'school.' Will post more when the main site comic gets an update. Will most likely be Tuesday the 12th.

On the comic, I really wanted this to be the best looking comic I've made so far. I also wanted to do a more rapid pace with time skips to accelerate the plot, while doing constrained panels. This counters my typical writing style and art style. I usually write 800 comics happening the same day, and creating broad, more horizontal panels (I like more cinematic set-ups.) I'm trying to move away from rim-lighting everything when I shade.

Just all of my crutches...

working on 'em.

There was a lot of challenging of myself.

So thanks for allowing me the time. You guys deserve the best product I can make, not the easiest thing I can schlopp out.

Creating these little mini-worlds for certain characters is always fun. Just like with Pumpkin's world on the main comic. They have their own hobbies and friends groups. Almost every scene has some kind of 'interest' Caleb and Vu are into. Squid monsters, The Mighty Boosh, koi.. Tim Horton's cereal (which I assume just tastes like the brick and mortar buildings.) 'Show don't tell' doesn't have to just be plot related. This also helps me achieve one of main goals with every strip I make: "How can I make this comic look 'lived in?' My other is "How can this elicit emotion?" Love to talk more about this some day.

Next one up soon.

It sure does. Insert "Frye - Shut up and take my money!" meme.

Congrats to you both on the baby girl ^-^ I wish you all well! You can really feel the energy and tension in every panel in this page - and it really hits home on everyone who's ever been self-employed (especially in regards to data!). Reminds me of when I got a new PC. Used a PC file transfer agent to transfer years worth of composition files, only to find that of all my files, *none* of my composition data was, in fact, transferred over - and my old PC decided to promptly die, so I couldn't retrieve the originals, either.... That asides, it's always a delight when your comics are posted ^_^ Keep up the good work <3

Speaking as a software engineering manager, there are NOT, in fact, tons of people out there that can just whip up a commercial website in a week, especially with crazy original media content like this. Coders (good ones anyway) are in huge demand and even noobs fresh out of bootcamp are asking $80k+ to start - and getting it. BTW, long time reader, first time poster Chris, love the site, congrats on the new baby!

Oh, the perils of being self employed. And having a digital workplace. I presume. Also, go you for pushing your artistic boundaries.

Tim Hortons cereal sounds delicious
