Endgame - 20 November 2024

Okay. 156 pages, word format. 56,376 words.

I think it's fair to say this is the biggest chapter of An Impractical Guide to Godhood I've ever written so far (and I hope it will stay the biggest for a long, long time).

Behold the Endgame.

And if you think that because you've read the last teaser you know how it ends...

BWAHAHAHA!

Think again.

It is not over until the last Labour.

It is not over until the Tyrant decides it is.

Pray for the salvation of your soul. Beware the Penguins.

This is the Final Escalation...and the End of the Games.

I will likely begin the chapter of The odds were never in my favour tomorrow, on totally unrelated news. It's time to give Alexandra her time to shine...and I want to write the chapter of the Seventh Task for December (in our world, obviously, not in hers, the Tournament ends in June).

The problem is that undermining the Hunt is very much a great risk/problematic rewards game. If you are caught doing something problematic which also can be considered a violation of your diplomatic immunity, Artemis incinerates you. And as the Huntresses won't be anywhere Near Byzantium, any grand plan of Perseus very much requires the Huntresses to participate in the same Quest as he does...

Antony444

If all Perseus wants to do is recruit Ellen and Jenna for the next adventure of the Suicide Squad I agree sitting in New Byzantium and waiting for them to show up is all he needs to do. If that is the limit of his ambition regarding using them to undermine the hunt and create Chaos within it I am very disappointed in him.

Nicholas

Gad you liked it!

Antony444

For the moment, no. The children of Mars got their inheritance the moment they were born; you can't remove it from them. But for the next generations, well...

Antony444

Good, good! Let the madness flow...

Antony444

Thanks!

Antony444

I would argue Perseus doesn't need that many contingency plans for the first point. If/when someone is thrown out of the Hunt, one of the only places you can go is New Byzantium/New Constantinople. And evidently, Perseus will be already there, to tell them 'yeah, I told you so'.

Antony444

Great chapter. I have two thoughts. First, Perseus is betting that it will be less than two months before Ellen and Jenna were thrown out of the Hunt. I wonder what contingency plans he has in place for when that happens. Perseus has always hated the hunt so he will be doing something to undermine it. It will be interesting to see what. My plan would be to create a rival hunt tied to one of the Gods he has made in the last couple of years but Perseus probably has something crazier in mind. Second, Mark Antony got out of this alive by working with Perseus. Not only is he alive his wife is now a God. I suspect he may have learned enough humility to come back to Perseus for help with his own ascension. For all the joking I think Perseus eternal friendship received sincerely is actually quite valuable and I can see Mark Antony and the Triumvirate being the first realize this and sincerely ally with Perseus. That would be quite a boost for him and his pantheon.

So damn good, my favorite story of yours

I fear the madness has infected me since I can't stop cackling

That was immensely satisfying. I am looking forward to seeing how the Council responds to this. So Lou and Annabeth are likely two of the three 'wives' he is destined to have. I would guess at Bianca being the third but at the same time I suspect she is going to fight her feelings as hard as she can for as long as she can. Nice to see Piper get a somewhat good ending.

Not sure if this has been asked yet... With Ares losing one his aspects that seems tied to Rome will this have an impact on any current children of Mars. Additionally, since it seems to be represent a wolf, which I am guessing tied to pack tactics or cooperation, will this impact his Mars aspect. I think he was the Patron of the Legion and without that aspect I would think the Roman Legion losing it's unity and fraternity. My theory is that when Hestia extracts it from Ares it described I believe as withered and pitiable. If there is a correlation, I would point out that during the trials to determine which legion to send Octavius one by trickery and manipulation. Octavius was only able to get to that position and succeed in his tactics because the aspect of Mars that propped up the unity of the Legion had been left to be forgotten.

What a chapter. I always love a good Asterix reference.

“Except it is nothing but a giant lie,” Luke said bluntly. “You supported Commodus because you and I are exactly the same, deep inside. " <- For some reason, I believe that Luke did not mean to say I in this sentence. It seems to be a bit of a truly unfortunately placed typo. ^_-

Because when it comes to TWO, the time between the moment I finish writing and the moment the betas give me back the corrected chapter is already so huge that I am not going to make my readers wait several more months for an update. For The odds were never in my favour, with a monthly update, I am simply not able to write fast enough to get one chapter in advance. And for The Dance is not Over...I admit I never really tried.

Antony444

Good, good, let the Dark Side fills you...

Antony444

Thanks for the enthusiasm!

Antony444

Thank you, thanks for all the compliments!

Antony444

Perseus calls it 'Wednesday', lol.

Antony444

Thanks for all the comments and the vote of approval!

Antony444

That's the spirit!

Antony444

I was supposed to work today not read this but oh well. Murder hobo just doesn't care at all about rules. Really interested in what on the island for the pirate king.

Forgottenone

Why is this fic the only one that keeps a chapter exclusive to patreon? All of the others are kept up to date on ff and ao3, except this one.

Joshua Poller

Woo! That' was great, and some nice payoff from conversation between Percy and Hestia all the way before they sailed on the sea of monsters (or at least the spirt of Hestia spying on him and Percy noticing). Prometheus...you fucked up big time there, and Ares is in so much shit. Well, if he looks up as far as he can, he might see the very bottom of the abyss. Its going to be interesting to see the reactions from Olympus from this. Artemsis...well, she's going to have to learn eventually not to keep pissing Percy off.

Bel

What a chapter

MacDoc-101

Truly amazing. The twists, turns, drama and chaos. Goes to show that even Perseus can momentarily “defeat” a titan and the no: of steps he is ahead of everyone is astonishing. Absolutely cannot wait for the next chapter. Wonder if Blackbeard will make an appearance and whether from now on, Iris and Marcus would be willing to help Perseus for his future adventures. Who is going to be the 17 lovers,I assume will take course over the future stories

TSfan13

Wooooo, let's goooo!

Ravenext

I was just getting ready to sleep but I will read this first.
