Do soundbars need to light up like a Christmas tree?

What happens when you take a soundbar, and then put a row of RGB lights along the bottom of the front edge? GAMING. That's what happens. And if Creative hadn't done this, obviously their soundbar would be wholly inappropriate for gaming.

Lighting aside, this Katana V2 sounds very good so far. I wasn't expecting much, particularly when I saw that the sub did not have an onboard amp, but the system has a full sound. I think the low ceiling helps in this basement office area. Will try upstairs with the living room setup later. A review is in the works.

Comments

The lighting is "reactive" to audio using the software, but the effect was not impressive. Basically some distracting blinking.

PC Perspective

I'm definitely not sold on these at $330. I've generally been happy with my Creative Labs purchases but I would also be looking at the Sonos Ray at this price point. In fact there are probably several options in that price range. As for the lighting, well unless the RGB does something awesome I can get a fancy LED strip for under $20.
