Exclusive Video: Welcome to 2025!

I used to be in the content game. It’s an exhausting treadmill and the internet is filled with many nitpicking jerks which makes it even harder. Take loads of time off, it’s your life. Build your company and ignore the noise. The irony in people complaining about you developing a tool company is these are the same people that complain about everything. They will complain about corporate this and corporate that, but will be the first to buy cheap crap from Amazon. They are also the same morons to drive one hour out of their way to save $1 on a purchase. People who complain about your success is just another socialist crab trying to pull you back into their miserable bucket. I enjoy your success. Keep at it Rex.

John M

I suppose you are adding supports for that printed tote overhang? I know some folks have good results using PLA as an interface only that way reducing the AMS switching.

John M

That’s fair, I thought I’d ask just in case 👍

Jim

I posted pics of the first guitar case on the forum but couldn't figure out how to tag you in, Rex. To which I did apologize for when I was posting the pics as well. Someone told me how to do it but even then I still couldn't figure it out.(I learn better with visual explanations more than just verbal.)

Jennessa Lynam

Sad that we can't get yellow pine out west...spent a season in Florida where it's common and just loved it!

John Griswold

Would love to see the instrument cases...I'm building instruments and they need some;)

Keithswoodshop

That's great! You should drop a link.

Rex Krueger

Did you have trouble with the tote, too/

Rex Krueger

Personally, I use modern mirrorless cameras with vintage, manual-focus lenses. Once you own the camera, the lenses are cheap and very good. No film. No developing.

Rex Krueger

That's SO nice of you to say. It's appreciated!

Rex Krueger

Thanks! Happy New Year to you, too.

Rex Krueger

WOW! That's pretty ambitious for a first project! I hope it comes out great. I'll try to do more Chinese woodworking.

Rex Krueger

I think it's going to be a good year!

Rex Krueger

The first week hardly even counts. You're just winding down from work the whole time. Around day 9 things start to come into focus as your brain finally cools off. Then you can really start enjoying yourself.

Rex Krueger

And to you! Hope it's a good one.

Rex Krueger

It's exactly what I want from the holiday. Sit. Read. Repeat.

Rex Krueger

The texture from the printing looks kind of strange. The light hits it like black velvet. You can't feel it, but it looks weird.

Rex Krueger

WOW! Three of those tables! They get pretty easy after a while, don't they?

Rex Krueger

It's true, and once you hit burnout, it never really goes away. It's just a constant thing that needs to be managed.

Rex Krueger

I hope you got one, too. We do all need them.

Rex Krueger

The recharge is a necessity. I'm a lot older than I was when i started this insane career.

Rex Krueger

I'm so glad you feel that way!

Rex Krueger

I think we can solve a lot of those storage issues, and you're right, that's a GREAT crowd to be in.

Rex Krueger

You could screw one to a wooden plane, but it's not an ideal solution.

Rex Krueger

Well, businesses need to grow. Once you've done one thing for 7 or 8 years, you need new avenues. I need new creative challenges and my business needs opportunities to expand. Also there are just a lot of tools that should be on the market. If i don't make them, I don't think anyone else will.

Rex Krueger

I'm so glad! Thanks for being here!

Rex Krueger

Well, I certainly hope you get over this health stuff soon! I've had my own struggles and I know how hard it is when you're not at your best.

Rex Krueger

My pleasure!

Rex Krueger

I think all creative people are like that. If you make your living making stuff...you better make stuff!

Rex Krueger

You're very kind to say so! I hope my "retirement" looks a lot like yours!

Rex Krueger

You're very kind! We've got fun stuff coming.

Rex Krueger

I'm just going to copy mine with a lidded till to hold bits and bobs and a chisel rack. Pretty simple.

Rex Krueger

Well, I bet that Cello case is going to be just lovely! If you do a thread on the forum, please tag me in. I don't want to miss it.

Rex Krueger

Yeah, i think Doug Fir is a great choice. It's what I would use if i couldn't get yellow pine.

Rex Krueger

I would build a single cabinet just for those. The chest I'm building is big enough to hold 2 panel saws, but it won't take big saws. Those I just hang up.

Rex Krueger

I think we're going to go with black. Black goes with everything!

Rex Krueger

Glad you was able to get some time off and enjoy yourself. Looking forward to trying the tool totes, what colors will be available? Pet-G comes in many lovely colors.

Solia

I have most of my tools in hanging cabinets. I have moisture problems. I have about 5 26” hand saws. Any ideas for a tool box to hold those and about 6 more smaller saws?

John Thomas

And two other suggestions is more blacksmithing and a video on setting up a hand tool shop and the hand tools for this type of work,

Jeff Hill

Rex the knobs and totes will be a great help when restoring hand planes. I am looking forward to them becoming available. I am also looking forward to the tool chest build. One question on the chest build. I live in Oregon and have not seen yellow pine. We do have plenty of Douglas Fir. I have made a tool chest from Douglas Fir and it has held up very will. I loaded my hand planes, saws and several other hand tools when traveling back and forth when taking furniture making classes at Northwest Wood Working Studio with Gary Rogowski.

Jeff Hill

Happy New Year to you, Rex, and everyone else also. I hope those knob and totes will look exactly like the ones shown in this video cause I love them just the way they are. That black finish looks really cool at least from my perspective viewing it through my phone. I'm super excited about the tool chest build and can't wait. I just hope I'll be available to participate at the same time. Reason why I say it like that is cause I'm working on another epoxyed guitar case and then after that one is done I might even be doing a case for a cello, hopefully.

Jennessa Lynam

Lucas! You rock. Thanks for getting the tote! And Rex, I too have an old grey tool chest that was my grandpa's. Probably from before WWII. I would love to have ideas for how to make it great for today. It is NOT fancy, valuable, etc. But it is solid and functional. I don't need to restore it, but rather upgrade it for use. I'm looking forward to you series on the tool chest.

Bruce McDonald

Cheers, Rex! Happy to know you got the R&R you need heading into the new year full of exciting developments for you and your crew.

Kevin Hogg

I can relate to that self imposed treadmill. Technically I’m retired but I’m still very active in the engineering world. And why is that, because I still have this drive to contribute and create. But there are moments of frustration where I feel I’m stalled and I’m not accomplishing what I have committed to do. Then after a brief reset I’m hitting it full force. Your many undertakings amaze me. Keep the faith we all appreciate it.

Richard C von Brecht

Glad you're back but also very happy that you took some time off and it was beneficial (not to mention healthy!). I totally get the self-worth-being-tied-to-productivity thing. It's also the curse of composers...

Jim Dalton

Thanks for the update!

Jorge Harada

Hey Rex! Glad to see you smiling and well-rested. As someone who’s been struggling mightily with my health of late, I’ve come to deeply appreciate how important rest is. And buddy, you were sooo wise to take those 2 weeks off. Seriously. And although you’re back to work (yay for us and you!), continue to listen to what your body is telling you. For a long time I didn’t, and now I’m paying for it. Anyway, continue doing what you do—making 1st rate, educational content—and stay healthy! You’re the best, man!

Russell Gough

Good to have you back, rested, refreshed and full of new ideas and projects. Looking forward to the coming year.

Matt Evans-Koch

Although I like your products and can see where probably fill a void, I'm sorry to see you go down the path of Moses and Cosman turning from woodworking to tool manufacture 😔

Tom Stinson

I hope you & yours enjoyed the holidays. Question with the plane handles, would they work with wooden bodied planes or just the metal ones?

Jim

How dare you take a break! Only kidding - I only watch 3 wood working content creators now, Wood by Wright, Paul Sellars and you. Not a bad crowd to be lumped in. Looking forward to the tool chest. I have real problems with storage at the moment.

Rob Lovett

Thanks for the update Rex. The break was so well deserved. Lots of phenomenal content in 2024 that we received. Looking forward to what 2025 brings

Chris DuCasse

Welcome back Mr. Kotter, what happened to the "fro"? OK, showing my age...teaching and inventing take their toll on your energy, glad you could step back and recharge;)

John Griswold

Good work on taking that break, we all need them.

Eric McCormick

Quality over quantity wins the long game, and you never have to explain taking a break to me Rex. Burnout is real, and periodic breaks are all one can do to rejuvenate. I like the traditional build projects, glad you have more coming!

Pete seddon

Happy New year! Just finished my third Shaker style table. New tool chest is my next project. Can’t wait to see yours.

Samuel Brock

Hey! I thought the 3d printed knobs and handle was computer generated. Something with the angle or the contrast to the beach. Had a laugh when you picked them up!

Bradley Barth

Glad you are back and had an uneventful time off. No surprises and no events is a good thing.

Marc Barash

Welcome back and happy new year.

Ethan Chitty

Glad you had a restful break. My 1st 2 week vacation a couple years ago was a game changer for me. To be creative you have to havecthe time to have ideas not just make your ideas come to life. Looking forward to seeing the new stuff this year. Congratulations on the new camera too.

Dave West

Happy New Year! Can't wait to see what comes down the pipeline in 2025.

Stephen Ellis

Looking forward to more Chinese woodworking updates and projects. Almost finished my Chinese-style bench from your plans--my first project ever.

Liam Davitt

Happy new year and welcome back!

Liam Davitt

People often describe themselves based on what they do or where they’re from, or who their ancestors are. When you stop everything, who are you really? I’ve been following you for about 4 years. No matter how much time you take, I’ll always be excited for whatever is next 🙂

Joshua Lee Reynvaan

Thanks for including more build in future videos. Glad you got some rest. Mushey minds don’t create well. Photography verses videography, like building with hand tools verses power tools. Composition and exposure translate pretty directly. In video you have motion and sound to think about as well. I would love to get back into photography, but where does one even bit film and get it processed anymore? It will also help your printing and woodworking. You become more aware of shapes, ratios, and relationships.

Chris St. Cyr

I do some 3D printing too, I've made a knob and tote

Keithswoodshop

I have been off since may, and have been watching your, and Wood by Wright videos, and started making videos of my own.
