The intrepid kunoichi decided to brave the danger anyway. Not that she had much choice in the matter; she had to pass through the crypt in order to reach the city’s sewer system, which was to serve as her escape route from Lyonne so that she could bypass the City Guard and meet up with her companions outside the city walls later.
It turned out that the crypt beneath the inn was, indeed, haunted, by none other than the ghost of Ysabeau the Fair, First of Her Name, rightful Queen of Valois before the current dynasty usurped the crown from her. The queen’s shade sought to strike a bargain with Reiko; retrieve her royal remains, scattered across the realm by the usurpers, so that she might rest in peace, and in exchange the queen would give Reiko access to her hidden treasure vaults…
