SPOILERS! If you haven’t read Chapter 7 yet, you should do so before reading further.
Diane succeeded in luring the players into an encounter with the vampire, Marius Demarest, Earl of Duskhaven (a.k.a. Fanglord, a veteran player of Fantasie Unchained!). As a consequence, she was able to extricate her roommate Lyvette from the vampire’s clutches, although the poor girl remains in some sort of hypnotic trance. Alas, thanks to Diane’s meddling, the three players are now engaged in a fight for their virtual lives against a deadly opponent. Even three against one, they have barely been able to hold their own against Demarest – and now he has summoned allies of his own into the battle!
Diane could simply slip out of the tavern with Lyvette while the players are fighting. However, she finds herself presented with two alternative courses of action. First, she could take up Reiko’s bow and join in the fight on the players’ side. After all, Diane was a competitive archer back in college; if she is able to employ her real-world skills in the game, she may be able to make a difference! Alternatively, she could pick up that magical amulet with the winged goddess and see if bestows upon her some power that she can wield against the vampire and his confederates.
