The 8086's Last Gasp - Tandy 1000 RL Hard Drive

This week's video is a simple one because I've been prepping for the upcoming stream. I figured I'd take a look at getting a Tandy 1000 RL Hard Drive working. I saved this machine from scrap a while ago and figured it probably needed something. So my main goal on this was just to go through the hardware thoroughly to look for problems (which I found!) and then see if it worked. This also happens to be an 8086 based computer that came out in 1990! Imagine you went to go buy a computer today and it came with a Nvidia GTX 960 GPU, that's how far out of date this was!

The NVidia 960 GTX came out in 2015. I had to look that up because the only modern part I can kind of date from the parts number is Intel CPUs and they just stopped that numbering.

2025-02-15 22:47:58 +0000 UTCI'm guessing this machine was an "upgrade" or a replacement for a previous machine that had died, and the previous owner just brought their Logitech mouse and their Quick Menu setup with them.
