10G Fiber Home Network and Rebuilding my Sever Rack

Hello!

Depending on how you look at it, this video has been in the works for 3 months, 1 year, or 3 years because I've been planning this for at least that long. I just completed a total rebuild of my home network and server rack to finally solve all of the issues I've had over the years with my setup. The backbone is 10Gb but there are some 40Gb and 2.5Gb runs in there too. I've been working on this off and on for months and as I was finishing the last video I got it to the point where it was ready for action. So as soon as that video was completed I started on the final stretch of this project and still only barely had enough time to get it done.

But it is done now and oh my was it worth it! I don't think I'm the best person to make videos about this kind of thing because I very much do not enjoy networking. But I thought that also made for an interesting perspective because I barely know what I am doing and got by okay, with some help from some of my supports with some more challenging issues.

That 'unsupported transciever' error is no surprise to me, having installed lots of them.. Those Aruba's are incredibly finicky with support for transceivers and hardly any transceiver that doesn't work will start to work when you toggle the option to use unsupported transceivers. I would've gladly helped you set all of it up, because I know this stuff by heart. There is however the small matter of 3000 miles of ocean and something with time zones... ;)

Another lifetime ago, I used work for a storage company that built storage appliances which used Infiniband to interconnect head units and each storage chassis. Before things like the 60-drive Storinator and whatnot, we had 2U-12 bay and 3U-15 bay cases full of HDDs and a backplane, plus a head unit with gobs of PCIe lanes and SAS controllers to run them all. It was neat, but clunky. Nice job getting it all running though!
