I was Wrong - Xerox Memorywriter 645S Works!

Hello...again.

So I got enough comments and discussion about the drives and belts on the Xerox that I decided to look into them one more time and try just swapping out the drives. The results were...surprising to say the least.

This is a somewhat annoying situation to be in with the last video now but oh well. I strongly felt before that if the drives could read, they could write. So I didn't want to spend time on what I thought wasn't likely to be an issue and I didn't investigate the belts closer. I'll call this a learning  experience now and keep that in mind in the future.

On the bright side, IT WORKS!

Comments

I made some progress figuring out the structure of the floppy disks, I have been able to extract the files from the base and options disk. They seem to be mostly executables for the Z80. See https://github.com/pkooiman/Xerox645S_disks

Maybe when reading the drive can adjust its timing based off of the data on the disk but writing leaves the timing entirely up to the drive?
