Jujutsu Kaisen 3x03 "About the Culling Game" - reaction & review

Comments

Wow, this might actually be the official syllabus for the Culling Game because you nailed so many key points! I love how you laid out the stakes — Tengen, Kenjaku, and the whole “protect Japan from turning into one giant cursed buffet” situation is absolutely wild. And you’re so right, that moment when Tengen started narrating everything?? I had to pause and just go, “Wait. WHAT??” Also yes, the hair-fixing meme multiverse is officially unstoppable. Every show’s getting their “fierce but fabulous” moment now. You mentioning Maki’s mission and the Angel connection got me thinking too — the tension’s building everywhere and we’re still juggling all these emotional ties. Like, Yuji trying not to kill while everyone else is spiraling? Brutal. And that Gojo line...even when he’s sealed, man’s causing problems from beyond the cube. I can’t wait to see how this cour wraps, but also… terrified. I’ll be taking that final with trembling hands!!!

This was such a good analysis Manny but on a funny note, I had SUCH a hard time reading this without reading "Brain" as "Brian" LOL!! I was like who the fudge is Brian?!!?!?! Just thought you'd get a kick out of it :P But yeah, this all tracks to me- and it can be so hard to keep track of! Ohhh you're right about the mini arc with the barrier! I'd forgotten all about that! That's actually a great way to put it. My brain always blows a fuse over this show LOL!!! I think it's common :P Also great to hear from you, hope all is well!

The last two episodes of last season helped make things a jumbled mess. A lot of actiony stuff happened and then we got the info about the brain being a sorcerer from way back when, and then we got the news that Yuji was related to Choso which turned the whole series on its head. I appreciate the visuals here. They helped somewhat. Okay so the Brain devoured Mahito and got his technique: Idle Transfiguration. Since Mahito grew much stronger during his fight with Yuji and Tojo, his technique became way more powerful in the process. Brain used that to open a chaotic whole that let curses run wild in Tokyo and now we are here. That’s the gist of it. I didn’t get the stuff with the barriers and colonies but they did bring up the mini arc of the “test of courage” in season one when Yuji and Nobara fought Choso’s two brothers. The trio had to perform a few small actions in a specific order in order to cross over to a different barrier or whatever. That’s the gist of something I can’t quite comprehend but since this is all covered here it’ll be more clear when we see the game begin. Our guys are playing this whole thing by ear. This is an act of terrorism against sorcerers. That’s how Megumi put it in episode two. The brain is trying to do something with this game but I can’t tell exactly what his goal is. Hm I never thought about it before because we saw how Geto’s outlook changed and knew his goal when it came to changing the world. But I guess since the brain took over his body I never stopped to think whats the brains goal in “evolving mankind.” There was a lot to take into account. My brain blew a fuse 😵‍💫

Welcome to Culling Game 101, the 12-credit course that you need in order to pass Jujutsu Kaisen class - it’s our biggest enemy - READING. 😅 A couple of things - first remember when Nsoya was fighting Choso and fixed his hair while fighting last week? It’s become quite the meme, now we have cuts like Frieren fixing her hair while pushing Aura away, and we have Maomao doing it to Jinshi as well. Those are just TWO examples. By the way… someone mentioned everyone in the intro is aura farming, hard. 😅 Tengen just revealed that they’ve been the one narrating everything in the show to this point when they revealed their voice. The biggest issues for the Culling Game are - Tengen must be protected, or Kenjaku will absorb them, and by definition, all of Japan - so he can then curse them and transfigure them all into sorcerers. That’s my limited understanding. Fushiguro is concerned about his sister Tsumiki who is forced to participate in ten days, despite not being in any shape to - while Yuji doesn’t want to kill anyone but the rules state “you must kill, or you’ll be killed yourself for being too idle.” Although Fushiguro seems to have a plan for this. Last week, when they commented on the blood stains at the entrance, someone mentioned “I feel like that’s where this all started…” That might’ve been an understatement - when Toji killed Rika, it set off Geto, and opened up the chance for Kenjaku to capture Gojo - as long as he is sealed, the Six Eyes can’t reappear somewhere else to interfere. The fact that Kenjaku is Choso’s father and Yuji’s mother makes this really weird, doesn’t it… also he was using Idle Transfiguration after absorbing Mahito to try and accomplish this, but it wasn’t powerful enough which is why he started the game. So Choso and Yuki are guarding Tengen - which can be targeted by Geto’s ability of Cursed Spirit Manipulation, which Kenjaku now has. That’s ground zero. Ok lotus is going to the game immediately, but will enter a colony away from Tokyo so he doesn’t have to fight his friends or Fushiguro’s sister. Speaking of that, anyone notice Tengen didn’t address Fushiguro at all when they entered? Maki is trying to retrieve cursed tools from the Zen’in clan, which, given her status as an outcast and a woman - you know there’s gonna be at least one major obstacle there. Which leaves Yuji and Fushiguro to figure out what to do next. I think I have the main points down. Open your textbooks to page 394. There will be a test at the end of the week. Anyway, it’s probably best to just screenshot everything at the end and look at it that way. Also, Angel is in the colony Yuji and Fushiguro are going to, because they need her to open the back of the Prison Realm. The inverted spear of heaven was what Toji stabbed Gojo with in Hidden Inventory before he awakened, and I believe the black rope was all used up during Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Even when Gojo isn’t on screen he’s making life difficult for everyone. 😅 MAL has updated their episode count for this cour as 12 episodes, so that’s the only official confirmation o have at this point. I think we can assume the next cour is Part 2. To quote a certain series “may the odds be ever in your favor,” but I don’t trust this author too far from what people have told me. 👀 Now, you need a 90 or more to pass the entrance exam. Pencils ready and… BEGIN! ✏️
