The Apothecary Diaries 2x19 "Festival" - reaction & review

Comments

Sounds good! Right, there's so many little things it's important to pay attention to! The memory thing and the hair stick are interesting for sure. The mom stuff was so sad!! He's kind of a stinker lol. Yeah I definitely was missing a lot of my targets while firing off arrows in this one haha. Thanks for refreshing me on the ghost story! And thanks for being cool about spoilers!

I’m doing your reactions on weekdays because it makes more sense, but since this is your last upload for the week usually I don’t get to it until today - it’s a little perturbing to know that someone spoiled you on Shisui if they flat out told you, because you’re not supposed to have put that puzzle piece together quite yet. If you came up with it on your own, it’s another story. There’s a few nuggets in here that the show likes to gloss in - for instance, Maomao notices Shisui painted her mask green and she thought it was odd (it’s later explained, but it’s usually the passing comments you have to pay the most attention to.) It seems the entire clan is descended from the Mother Royal due to the fact almost all of them suffer from color blindness. Maomao is very interested in “the resurrection potion,” but Suirei points out she barely survived it the first time, and you could end up losing your memory. Shisui seems quite intrigued by Maomao’s hair stick. To what end? Nobody knows. Shisui also drops several concerning facts about her own mother while she’s doing her hair - apparently she has to do everything perfectly or she gets punished. Kyou-u seems like a bit of a troublemaker, doesn’t he? No wonder he gets along well with Maomao - well, except the fact he opens doors without knocking… but now that Maomao’s found the feifa workshop and Shenmei has discovered her… yeah this doesn’t seem great. You’re firing a lot of arrows, but I did tell you you weren’t playing with the full box of puzzle pieces - but at this point you can start yo figure out how things connect. You don’t have ALL the pertinent info but you’ve got enough you can start to put some of the sides together. (I believe Shisui’s ghost story was the one about the monk who had to keep chanting the sutra or whatever it’s called so that the couple who let him stay and then turned into monsters wouldn’t find him?) Anyway, I don’t have a whole lot more to say at this point because I am trying to drop bread crumbs without spoiling as much as possible…

Ahhh I wanna know!!! Oh you're right about Shishou, thanks for reminding me! Whoaaaa so the whole exiled with the doctor thing...and Suirei being with a doctor a lot....HMMM!! You're right, Jinshi was the brother every time he was targeted! Yeah I figured that was Shisui's story, sorry, I couldn't quite remember! I felt for her when she was talking about her mom :( That line was quite heavy wasn't it?! Lol I can see how you could ship them after this one!

Well to be fair, they didn't really come out and say it - just something about seeing the text of "Loulan is missing, so is Shisui, and they look alike"...it's like I knew all that but my brain put it together from the comment and not from the show! I'm embarrassed I didn't get it like most people did :( But glad that my overthinking about the age stuff is amusing haha!

People shouldn't have told you about Loulan being Shisui. They 100% spoiled you. Most people picked it up by now. There were so many clues, but technically it hasn't been reviewed yet. You trying to figure out about ages is hysterical btw. You are overthinking things.

I won't lie, you're a pretty close to the full truth and te reveal, I will try to clear some things for you but only with the infos that we are given for now, so that may help you. First about Shiso, we now know that he is color blind and there is a big chance that he his from this village, since Shisui said that many men from here are color blind but it's rarer for women, and since she is also color blind, you see the conexion to Shiso and the fact that she is his daughter. But it was said previously that Shiso gain his post because he impressed the old empress and was close to the late emperor, so he couldn't be the late emperor's son. About the lost princess, her mother was Taihio and while Taihio was locked in the rear palace, the lost princess was exiled with the doctor that was supposedly her "father". Giving the timing, she would be older than the actual emperor, so your guess about the fact that the lost princess could be a mother would fit since the actual emperor is also a father of multiple children, alive like Jinshi and Lingli or sadly passed away. But if she is a mother, the question is who would be the father of her child ? Now for Shenmei, the only thing we know is that she seem powerful and to rule this part of the land, we also know that she put make up that look like the one Loulan wore and that Kyo-u seem to be afraid of her. Another conexion easy to make is that the feifas were used during a hunt on Shiso's domain, so if you think the village is a sort of home to Shiso, you see the conexion again. You can even add the first attemps at Jinshi in season one from Suirei since it's her lab. To clarify another thing, Jinshi was "the brother" during the hunt, and during the first attempt, even if we don't know what name he was going by at that time, Maomao said that only high people can perform the ritual, what "Jinshi" isn't officialy with his eunuch persona. So both attack were directed as someone of high hierarchy anyways, not Jinshi in particular. I would also just point out something about Suirei that you might have forgoten, she was introduced in her post in season one, by a doctor, surely the one who teached her. About the story that Shisui tell, it was the monk one with the insects (of course). But about what she said about her mother, that she was beaten and sometimes spayed with hot water, it's hurt even more when you remember how she reacted while entering in the bath the first time... Now about the things to remember from this episode, the line that Shisui said "insect don't pass the winter, leaving their children behind", the fact that she eated the lantern fruit knowing it don't taste good and what the courtesan use it for (even if we don't know since Shisui stopped Maomao). I will just end this looooooooong comment, by saying that, I said that I was one of the peoples that shipped Maomao and Shisui, and this episode is a perfect exemple, you can clearly see that Shisui care about Maomao and it is just adorable.
