How to Train Your Dragon reaction - full / syncable version

Hey everyone! I'm here reacting to HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2!!!! OMG, you guys, they really shocked me in this one! Sadly I could just feel it coming that something bad was gonna happen to the dad, but I NEVER thought we'd get the twist we did about the mom! At least they had some happy times together first :( Also all the nasty treatment of dragons in this one had me upset!!!! It's crazy to think that dragons were our enemy at one time, when clearly other humans present a far more dangerous threat :/ Hope you enjoy! ~ Melissa

Oh I didn't realize beforehand that it was based on something else! LOL I know just what you mean about the "that guy" actors!! So true, they're not reinventing the wheel here, but just doing what they're doing to perfection. Oof yeah, the Lion King vibes are right on! Hahahaha omg I didn't realize till afterwards that was Kit Harrington, but yeah, I get the joke a bit more now! OMG THE ANGST!!! They went full anime alright! It was a harsh but kind of beautiful lesson that we learned about leadership throughout this movie. LOL the Hiccup death fakeouts are really something! :P

There’s a misconception I do believe needs to be cleared up: this series isn’t original, it was initially based off a series of books, so they had a lot of source material to work with ahead of time. :) You said you didn’t recognize Draco’s VA, Djimon Hounsou, by the name - you probably DO know him - but you just don’t realize it. He’s been in a lot of popular movies - he first burst onto the scene in a Spielberg film called Amistad as a condemned slave in 1997, and Joe’s been in a lot of supporting roles since. Look up his filmography and you’ll be like “Oh! It’s THAT guy!” Regarding the storyline here itself it’s not breaking any new tropes, again - but what it does do it executes at a very high level. The plot serves each of the characters, a lot more than the characters serve the plot. I’m not going to lie, something occurred to me rewatching this - did you get any Lion King vibes from this movie? You should know what I mean. I don’t think Hiccup and Astrid are officially engaged or anything, but everyone can kind of see where that’s headed, including the parents. Ruffnut’s obsession with a character being voiced by Kit Harrington might be a trope on how a lot of young women felt when GoT was airing. 😅 “This is why I never got married - and one other reason.” Gobber is so awkward, but I think you get the joke, if you’ve been watching Apothecary Diaries. 🐸. The level of angst by not just killing Stoick off but making Toothless do it against his will and it being to save Hiccup? Did someone just go into the writing room one morning and say, “how much angst can we stick in one scene?” I don’t see this in Western animation nearly as much, but to steal most of a line from Robert Downey Jr., “they went full anime.” Drago was killed when the Alpha was defeated because he was standing on it and plummeted to his death - you can’t really swim with one arm. The moral of this film I believe is that nobody is perfect, even the people you respect the most. Hiccup wasn’t just running away, he was afraid he couldn’t live up to his dad. But everyone else knew his dad was just as flawed, but the things he did do, were the things that mattered the most. And now Hiccup has to do the same. Because that’s what counts. Also, Toothless kind of became a chief as well when he turned into an Alpha. PS: How many more times are they gonna try to fake Hiccup’s death at the end of a plot line you think? To answer your question, there is one more movie. In this one both of the kids were 20. Maybe by the next movie Toothless will be able to fly by himself and we’ll have invented something to wash out dragon spit. 🤭
