One-Punch Man 3x02 "Monster Traits" - reaction & review

Garou facing off against these two monsters really makes me wanna root for him again lol! And whatdya know, Saitama already got his punch in (again)!!! The dine and dash side story was hilarious! I felt so bad the for the boy, and Garou defending him just makes me want him on our side even more!!! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

I agree about Garou! And about the french fry :P And I think you're not alone in how you feel about the animation. It really doesn't help that we waited so long, which probably had a lot of people feeling like it should be superb animation when we finally get it. But I'm glad you're at least enjoying the plot aspect!!!

The first is the plot (or rather, lack of one, which isn’t a problem - we’re just trying to set up absurd scenarios in a row). I’ve come to the conclusion at this point that Saitama will never be a hero on purpose - he’s always performing when it’s an accident. Fubuki will never accept a French fry ever again after this…. As for Garou, he isn’t a good guy. He’s not a bad guy either. He’s just done with all the BS - I think he has his own “code of conduct” and kind of sees everything out there for the sideshow it is. Now, the other part of this is something I started noticing last week, but I didn’t want to call it out too fast. I can’t put this too much politer - the animation so far this season… sucks. Most of it is just still frame movement over a panel - most of the scenes only the character talking is animated, there’s nothing going on the background or with any of the other characters in the shot mist of the time. It really seems like the studio was phoning it in - which makes me wonder if they’re going to get any better. Hopefully they’ve got something they’re saving the budget for (I don’t read the manga myself, but people that do are calling it One PNG Man) - which is a shame, because the story’s amusing and so many people were looking forward to this show returning. I’ll just put it like this - look at everything in each of the shots that ISN’T moving at all. I get cutting corners for budget reasons but this feels like well, they just drew a bunch of storyboards and then panned the camera over all of them. I’m hoping it gets better. MHA and SxF have both provided far better animation so far compared to this - I’m hoping we’ll see something to get my hopes up soon. So, in a nutshell, I’m enjoying the story and absurd plot, but I can’t say I’m impressed with the production quality. I won’t say too much more about it, I was hoping for the other show to be chosen obviously, but I was willing to give this a shot because it’s entertaining and we’ve waited so long for it. Here’s hoping next week my concerns get addressed. 🤞
