“Shunga” Preview
Added 2024-06-19 01:51:16 +0000 UTCI told myself I would do a comedy, and of course…it didn’t end up as such. This is a small snippet of the beginning of my segment for “Phallacies”.
Obviously, this does not feature any of the meaty parts of the segment, but it does introduce a first (for me, anyway). I speak Japanese. Do I do it well? I have no clue, but I really wanted to do something that I’d never done before. Japanese culture is something of an inspiration. Watching countless J-horrors and dramas propelled me into a chasm of rich cinema. Never have I ever wanted to do something more than this. I realized that, if I did something humorous, it would negate the passionate parts of this segment. I suppose comedy can be for another day.
I wouldn’t really call this horror per se, though. It means heavier into the supernatural aspects. For once, I didn’t really want to do anything too gory or extreme. Wrapping “Patient 4” made me realize that I needed a mental break from things like that. With Patient, I had to open up mental doors that I truly didn’t like opening. My OCD was causing a whirlwind of chaos inside my carapace, and it’s not something I enjoyed. I struggled majorly with shit that I didn’t even want to think about. So, moving into “Shunga”—it was a nice break.
All in all, I’m proud of this segment. The simplicity of it is something that makes a bold statement, without compromising the quality of imagery and story.
