Stan's point of light on a stick is in reference to George Bush's inaguration speech and his speech accepting the presidential nomination at the 1988 Republican National Convention. Tthe address likened America's clubs and volunteer organizations to "a brilliant diversity spread like stars, like a thousand points of light in a broad and peaceful sky. It later formed the name of a private, non-profit organization launched by Bush to support volunteerism. This is not the first time the speech and phrase are referenced. There is an episode where Sophia is talking about something totally different, then starts quoting the speech out of nowhere.
