The only thing I require for Emrys is that he be a spontaneous caster. I just feel like those would be the most fun to play around with as a writer. That still leaves us with quite a spread.
If we choose a religious class, then we will choose a patron Deity to follow later.

Bard- the jack of all trades, magic musicians and performers. Decent with weapons, decent with spells, excellent with skills, reasonably sturdy. Also known for fucking anything that moves in memes. Charisma based, making them good talkers.

Sorcerer- relatively fragile, but extremely powerful spellcasters descended from some kind of magical being. This is the mage, going all in on magic at the expense of melee or skills. Charisma Based

Inquisitor- The eyes and hands of the gods. Decent at everything like a bard, but more focused on buffing themselves and getting information than making friends and influencing people. Wisdom based, making them mentally tough and perceptive.

Oracle: the chosen of the gods, cursed with power and insight into the world. Top notch spellcasters, but more defensively oriented than a sorcerer. Also much tougher and a little better at non-combat skills. In return, they carry a curse which is generally pretty inconvenient. Charisma based

Mesmerist: the anti-bard. Focused on mind control and manipulation. Where the bard is an all rounder with an emphasis on helping their allies, the mesmerist is an all rounder with an emphasis on fucking with people. Note that most mind affecting magic is temporary, especially at low level.

Psychic- the Sorcerer of psychic magic. Heavy on mind influencing spells, they get more powerful magic faster than the mesmerist, but suffer during marathons. Int based, allowing them to know things and have more skills.
