"Exploring All The Maj7sus2 Chords" (Diagrams + Explanation)
Added 2025-09-12 18:41:34 +0000 UTCHere are the diagrams from my new video that explores many voicings for Maj7sus2 in standard tuning. You can watch the video here: https://youtu.be/EwBSX-EMlqw
Many of these voicings are movable and were created by exploring playable inversions of two initial Maj7sus2 voicings based off of the E string. I tried to take the initial voicings and create inversions up as many octaves as possible.
The technique used to create the voicings was to look at the note names of my initial shape. For example, if we have G x F# A D x (x meaning mute this string), and create new shapes from that initial pitch set where we take each note on each string and move that note up to the next closest note (from the chord) on the same string.
For example, to create shape #2, the note G moves up to A on the E string, F# moves up to G on the D string, A moves up to D on the G string and D moves up to F# on the B string.
Once we've done all of those moves, the result is a new shape / inversion of our initial chord.
So, once again,
SHAPE #1 (pitches): G-F#-A-D
SHAPE #2 (pitches): A-G-D-F#
Hope this helps!
Trevor
