A WORD WITH WEBB: SEPTEMBER 2024

Hey, hi, hello! How's everybody been? Good, I hope! Excited for Fall? I know I am! And there's so much to be done! Let's get into it.

WHAT'S WEBB UP TO?

A day job, dammit! But that ain't stopping me. I've been hard at work on weekly comics and new animated shorts. I've got a few in the works right now and am currently in the process of restructuring time to work on each in order to achieve a consistent rhythm of releases. My goal is to at least publish two more shorts before the year is over. I'm very excited to share more work with y'all and to see where this consistency can take me. In the meantime, have a peek at some compiled concept sketches: a collection of visual ideas and character designs for upcoming shorts. Let me know what you think!

OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS

Not much to report otherwise! Just been trying to find a work/life balance that suits me best. Thankfully, I think it's getting a little better each day! I know at the very least, I can say that for the Patreon. I've also been trying to enjoy the last bits of summer. Seeing movies in theaters again and trying to stick to reading more than I look at my phone lol. I'm almost done with the book "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow" but am dreading finishing it because I'm not sure what book I should pick up next. Hey - that might be a fun idea - anybody have any recs? Let me know in the comments!

THAT'S ALL FOR NOW

That's all I got but I hope you enjoyed hearing from me! Thanks again for all your support and I'll see ya again before ya know it! Adios!

Comments

I just finished reading Born A Crime by Trevor Noah. Really great autobiography about how one of my fave comedians grew up in South Africa at the end of the apartheid era as a mixed race person. Really good! Full of heart and super funny. Another one is The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin. Haven't finished it yet but it's basically a magical realism novel where all the boroughs of New York are personified as avatars and have to fight some eldritch horror. Pretty cool stuff. Sketches got me super pumped for new shorts! Looking forward to it. Consistency is always tough in art so props for that. And day job are a bitch, but keep on looking for that balance!

Top left looks like a continuation of "Work Crush," and if so, I'm hype!! The only thing more exciting than continued feel-good flirting is the smarmy attitude it looks like your friends/coworkers are having about it in the background. :D The rest of this also looks very fun. Re: Books, if you want a fun science-y page turner, I just got Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir off my library re: Libby. If you liked the movie The Martian at all, you'll like this. If you want more guidance on the phone -> book pipeline, Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport was huge for me. Or at least follow his guidelines for a "Digital Detox" even if you don't get the book. I feel like I'm easily 30% calmer, smarter, and more focused, with a much more sustainable relationship with apps & social media.
