Darkoath Chieftain - Body and Skin - PART ONE

Dear Craftwordians,

Welcome to a new month on Patreon, and thank you for your continued support over the years. :)

Exciting news alert! Get ready to dive into the wonderful world of miniature painting with our latest guide focusing on painting realistic skintones and body for Darkoath Chieftain by Games Workshop.

In this lesson you will learn more on the techniques such as underpainting, where we establish the foundational colors and tones, and overlapping layers, which allow us to build depth and texture in our painting. We'll also explore how to create pale, but colorful, skin textures and define the muscular anatomy of the Darkoath Chieftain.

This is just one of many skintone tutorials available here on Patreon. Be sure to explore our other lessons for additional techniques and insights. With each new tutorial, we strive to introduce something fresh and unique, delving deeper into these techniques to provide you with a richer understanding. We encourage you to explore and experiment on your painting journey, discovering new possibilities and honing your skills along the way.

Oh, excellent! Looking forward to it :D

Derek

Thank you as well. And of course, it's good to ask. I included the name of the Jade paint in the upcoming tutorial (next part), as it might be useful to know this information. Your comment gave me the idea. :)

Thanks for the reply! Sure, I totally get and understand that. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something, or my color theory knowledge was out of whack haha. Last time I checked, green can only come from yellow and blue primaries. Thanks for all of your tutorials - my painting has forever changed since learning from you both :D

Derek

Hello Derek, Thank you. :) The green color wasn't mixed between any of the other paints. You can see this in the other pictures. On page 12, there's a graphic showing a green paint added next to the others. This paint is called Jade Green. We didn't mention the paint name in the tutorial because it wasn't essential to the lesson. In each lesson, we aim to leave color choices and interpretations open, encouraging you to experiment both within and outside your comfort zone. In this example, the greenish tone is used to add warmth to the upper ambiance on the blue base. Hope that helps! Best, Aleksandra & Marko

Awesome tutorial! I have a question about the underpainting. In one image (page 12) it looks like you also added a bit of green? Afer you talked about using Crimson Red as the last zenithal underpainting, suddenly there is some green, but I don't think red mixes with any color to get green, so I was curious about that step. Thanks!

Derek

Hi, great skin tutorial. Would it’s be possible to have a future lesson for the rest of the model?

Hi! I was wondering if there could be a livestream with one of the easily accessible minis to help folks like myself who cannot afford a 3D printer at the moment and don't want to shell out for a high value games workshop mini. There are a lot of D&D and pathfinder minis of solid quality that can be purchased for under 5 bucks. Just an idea. I love these step by step guides, thank you!

This is awesome I'm going to try on my darkoath
