November Update

I just wanted to write a small update and catch up with you guys.

Recently I took a 2 week break from my art and social media following some stress I was experiencing irl, so I've been a bit quiet and haven't been putting out much art at all lately. The reality is that nobody probably really noticed, and I'm likely not being scrutinised anywhere near as much as I think I am, but I feel the need to apologise anyway.

I think when you build a platform that is based largely on interaction, you create a certain expectation that you need to be constantly switched on and constantly performing, and so when you encounter periods in life where you're not able to, for whatever reason, there's a tendency to really beat yourself up over it. Another side to this is that because you're technically your own boss, it's not like you can just take breaks and have somebody else fill in for you, which frequently leads to burnout.

I also need to apologise as I was supposed to put out a poll for October/Halloween, but I ended up missing the publish deadline due to the aforementioned stress, until it got to the point that it was way too late to upload it. I will have to find a way to make it up to you guys.

Some good news however, I am starting a new project—my first comic!

All the way back in March I was initially commissioned to create a 10 page comic. At the time I actually started working on it right away, but having never worked on a comic before I found I was running into a lot of problems, largely as a result of my inexperience in the medium. I'm really particular about my art and will agonise over every little detail before I hit upload, and I really, really didn't want my first foray into comic artistry to be total garbo (especially since I have a personal interest in the theming and concepts of the story for this). I took a long break from working on it to go back and study up on my anatomy, colour, technique, and the overall comic process (which is a lot more complicated than I thought it would be), and I'm at a point now where I'm happy to properly resume work on it, though I'll definitely be redoing the pages I did work on from the ground up.

The bad news is that due to the workload I'll be taking on, there'll be no poll for December. In order to compensate for this though I'll be uploading private pre-release pages of the comic, as it's completed, for my £5 and up patrons in place of the poll.

Thank you all as usual for sticking with me, my art, and your continued support! I hope you're looking forward to the comic!

Thank you Fibi, I really appreciate everybody's patience ❤️

Honestly your enthusiasm has been really refreshing! I think you'll like this comic since the content seems to be particularly up your and my street 👀

Take the time you need my dude. Take care and be safe.

I'm new so I had no idea on your usual output, but every piece you share is well worth the price of admission! I adore your work and am always happy to take delays for the health (mental, physical or otherwise) of the artist! I can't wait to see the comic and I'm excited that you're excited for it! Your taste seems pretty awesome and the fact that it strikes a personal chord with you makes me super intrigued. :O

I was wondering where the wonderful Ortamaw art was! No need for any pressure you should always take breaks when you feel that they are needed! We can wait as long as you need <3

I’m just here to watch and support a growing artist and wonderful young lady. You’ve got this, don’t overthink it and enjoy the process!!

Thanks for your patience, seriously. You guys are some good eggs. Great eggs. The best 🥚👍

So funnily enough, that's not true. At least for me, I did notice your absence, but felt it was best not to prod or message until I saw you were back online. No need for more pressure, you know what I mean? Anyway, as they said above, mental health is just as important as physical health, so take time off, relax, get inspired or just have fun, everyone needs it. And I can't speak for everyone, but I'll be here!

Thanks a lot Bren. This actually goes a long way to reassuring those anxieties.

Take as much time when you need it. Your mental health and well-being is most important. Glad you could take a break and refresh. Don’t worry we’re all here to support you!
