Klok Blogs: The current mysteries of The Last Precursor!

Hey guys! TLP and Cryopod are both pretty long. For my sake, as well as yours, I thought it would be cool if I did a short little writeup about TLP for today's post, focusing on some currently running mysteries in the story. Cryopod's mysteries are much more involved, so I will probably write a separate post on the same subject at the end of the month.

I couldn't think of a good way to decide the order of the mysteries, so I decided to go with Chronological. Some of these mysteries are solved in Cryopod! I'll mark them as such, when applicable.

This post is fairly short, but I didn't see a need to stretch it out.

Starting from Part 1!

...

Who are the Kessu? The Kraktol? The other various species in the galaxy? Where did they come from? How did they evolve?

Humanity went extinct at some point. How? When? Why? This is one of the core mysteries of the story.

What is the Koogali tree? Is it even important?

Who is the Wind Mother?

Why did the Kessu lose their memories of their past? It's implied they gave those memories up willingly, but why?

When we meet the Precursor, Jose Rodriguez, he's the last survivor of his ship. Why was he the only person to survive? Just luck? Can the others somehow be revived?

Why is it that the ships the Mallali/Rodaks/etc use are all from the early Terran generations? Why is a 50th era vessel like the Bloodbearer so rare? Shouldn't early-era vessels have become outmoded and scuttled? Why would they still be spaceworthy?

The more we read, the more questions we have about the different species of the Milky Way. Why would so many species evolve over time? Why do they all appear to come from Earth? Is their rise a result of humanity's extinction, or the cause?

Why would all of these different sentients appear but be unable to build their own spaceships? Why do they use ancient, outmoded human vessels instead of building their own? They seem intelligent, so why wouldn't they be capable of reverse-engineering human technology?

Who exactly is the Thülvik, what are her goals, and how will she achieve them?

What is Jose's backstory? What was his life like before the great stasis sleep that changed his existence? Who were his friends, and what were their relationships like?

What the heck is Yama? What are Shades? A new reader can probably guess what demons are, but like, what are they in the context of the Cryoverse? (Hint: Cryopod answers this one!)

Who or what are the Volgrim? TLP only gives us a vague explanation, but they seem really important! Might want to check out Cryopod to get this question answered too!

Why does Jose love cats so much? Never mind, that's not a mystery. Everyone does.

Why is Lele so good with technology? Her aunt Lorrie apparently taught her some stuff, but then one must ask why Lorrie is so good with technology if her memories were erased!

Why are there Buzor and demons on Tarus II when it's clearly the Kessu homeworld?

On another note, one must wonder why so little information has survived regarding the Terrans. Even after 100,000,000 years, you'd expect at least the name of humanity/terrankind to endure. Why has all of our knowledge faded away? Could the loss of all knowledge regarding humanity be the direct result of that which annihilated us?

What killed humanity? We've seen several possibilities so far. Dark Matter Propulsion, species from other galaxies, the rise of sentient creatures among us (Planet of the Apes style, eh?), internal conflict escalating into a full-scale galactic war, the return of demons... all sorts of possibilities! But which factors directly eliminated us?

Regarding Jose specifically, who was Evelyn to him? What is her story to our main protagonist? What place does she hold in his heart? Will he ever be at peace with her loss?

...

There are many other questions I've thought of, but for now, I think the ones I've posed in this post are the most important ones. TLP is presently only 36 parts long, but it already has a lot of intrigue lurking at its edges. Stick around, and later this month I'll write a similar post for Cryopod!

Thanks for reading!
