José Rodriguez is the last Terran, a species that once populated not only the Milky Way, but six other galaxies in the Local Cluster as well. After fifty eras of dominance over the Seven Galaxies, something terrible happened. A catastrophe. Humanity went extinct.
One hundred million years passed. New species of aliens arose in our absence, borne of creatures from the worlds we once inhabited. Cats, dogs, birds, and reptiles all gained sentience and rose up to take over the Milky Way. However, the more they explored, the more they found regarding the ancient ruins of the mysterious Precursors.
Who were these Precursors? How mighty were they to create such powerful machines capable of spanning galaxies?
Our story begins when José Rodriguez awakens from cryosleep, only to find himself the last living member of his Dreadnought-class starship. All of the other crew have perished after 100,000,000 years in stasis, and even José has suffered serious damage to his body from the prolonged sleep.
The Last Terran, a relic from the ancient Precursors who once ruled the seven galaxies, finds himself alone and vulnerable inside a hostile alien environment. With crocodilians knocking on his proverbial doorstep, bloodlust and greed in their eyes for his valuable technology, José must begin a quest to find out what happened to the Terrans, and what caused their demise!
However, nothing is as simple as it seems. Having lost everyone he ever knew and loved, José suffers from PTSD and trauma of the mind. This seemingly invincible, 9-foot-tall Super Marine has problems, and he must work through them if he aims to solve the mysteries surrounding his people's disappearance.

I commissioned Jose's artwork almost a month ago, and we spent a lot of time trying to get it just right. I think it ultimately came out quite good, depicting him as a strong, confident Admiral, while also making it clear the futuristic era he comes from.

The first mockup wasn't quite the angle I was looking for, so I had Raul totally redraw with a focus on a front-facing image to represent Jose's physical POWER.

At one point, we had a kind of goofy-looking turtleneck going on, but I had Raul change that XD

We reworked the outfit, and it came out quite good, but I hated the tie.

We finally ended up with the two above images, a tall, dark, and handsome Mexican man. I'm straight, and I still find him dreamy, hehe.
Unlike Jason from Cryopod, Jose is a 7,000 year old badass from the moment we meet him. Not only is he old and wisened, but his body is filled to the brim with nanomachines and all kinds of powerful augments. He's basically a Space Marine from WH40k, mixed with a fully decked-out Adam Jensen from Deus Ex, and that's by intention.
I think TLP is a fantastic story, one that will really stand up to the test of time. If you guys haven't read it already, what are you waiting for? Check it out!
