October Recap - Accomplished
- 3 Quinn Endings, 1 CG, 1 Side Story added to the game
- Brandon's What If added
- GUI Redesign for main route screen
- GUI Redesign - Added (?) icons that open Help menus in-game in lieu of tutorials.
- Main route screen now has button click sound effects
- Notifications have a sound effect
- 3 Betas
- Luciana sprite roughly designed (by me)
- Quispe and Lux sprites designed (professionally)
- Silhouettes replaced, more added. (Required for release, current ones were placeholders non-compliant for commercial release.)
- Obsession's common route has been merged into Sebastian's route.
- Walkthrough updated with route numbers and Quinn's endings
- Unlock criteria for Particles, locked endings, and side content added in-game.
- Various typo/grammar fixes.
Still In Progress Work
- 2 more Quinn endings are written, but there wasn't time to program them in.
- Monika's sprite has been added to the game, but the expressions have not been updated across all routes.
- 2 Quinn BGs in progress.
- There is a new 'ending' segment instead of the screen-shake effect, but this is not yet applied outside Quinn's route.
- There is a new 'Notes' display process, but this is not yet applied outside Quinn's route.
Plans for Dec Release
For next month, we're going to switch gears partially.
"Steam Nextfest" (that event on Steam with lots of demos to play they do about 3x a year) is happening in February, and Particles of Reality is participating!
Steam's rules dictate that the demo needs to be ready by December so it can complete steam's approval and curations processes.
I've already planned to heavily modify the demo to something more official. The current demo has a lot of content, and that will be reduced significantly to be more in-line with a standard demo. Right now I'm planning to share one ending per route.
There's quite a to-do list for a proper demo:
- Choose the endings that will be shared
- Recode the other choices to not be available in the demo
- Clean out all the Patreon-condition code (Going to start merging the Store and Patreon versions to be the same.)
- Update Monika's expressions for those demo-routes
- General polish: typos, checking sprite silhouettes, updating the endings & notes
- Lock up the side-content to be unavailable in the demo
- Test out Steam achievements and make sure I added those in all the right places for demo available endings
- Update the Steam page assets for the new GUI and Monika's new sprite.
- ...and probably more stuff I'm forgetting.
All this was stuff I was going to do sooner or later, the steam event just means it's sooner.
So I'm expecting all this demo work to take 1-2 weeks, unfortunately. AND there is Thanksgiving here in the US that will lose me about 2 days because of family obligations.
But of course there's still content for you guys needed!
I have ending 4 & 5 written AND edited for Quinn's route already! Those will be programmed for next month's release. And these two are very long & significant endings that tie into Particles!
Those two endings will take maybe a week to program because of their length and some added programming complexity for a new effect I want in it that I need to figure out.
So with the remaining <1 week I expect to have, I am going to write out some side content instead of Quinn's main route. Side content is always a lot shorter than a new route path, so I can probably create 1-2 stories depending on their length.
Right now, ALL Characters need additional side content.
So... who would you most prefer to have some new side content made?!
