2024-03-09 03:12:37 +0000 UTCThere has been an oversaturation of these, but well-intentioned extremist is another archetype. Although, that fits in more with being an anti-villain rather than a purely villainous archetype and is probably too close to the redeemable villain trope. Magnificent Bastards are fun and make for grand spectacles, but those can probably be described as a mix of a few of these archetypes rather than a purely standalone archetype. While I'll admit it is gratifying to see them lose, the types of villains I generally like the least are those with massive advantages where it requires either equally overpowered abilities, Deux ex machina, heavy plot armor, or the villain being notably, if not incongruently, incompetent for them to lose. They can be done well, and seeing them lose is normally rewarding as I already mentioned, but they do test the limits of suspension of disbelief, at least from my perspective.
