Hell yeah. This was the dopest, wokest, freshest fucking joint I ever smoked. Something bold, new and exciting, with great characters, a deeply interesting story, and style out the shitter. Even though it's set in the past it's like a movie from the future, maybe the first Hollywood film of the modern era that truly feels like it.
The plot itself isn't ground breaking on the face of it, it's a vampire movie. But there's many layers to it, and it's very clever and tactful in how it goes about revealing them. This film has a lot to say and it's not just the same old surface level, patronizing, stupid bullshit like most flicks nowadays that try to have a message.
The themes here are conveyed musically and poetically, with a mind-blowing soundtrack, and rich dialogue that leaves just enough unsaid to make you think. It knows what to be blunt about and what to leave open for interpretation.
Michael B Jordan does a great job playing two characters with very different personalities, and the head vampire is a fascinatingly complex character with some pretty understandable motivations. Even by the end it's hard to say he was wrong, and the contrasts and similarities between him and the protagonists are simply delicious.
I can only say good things about this movie, and I don't have time to sit here and say them all. I wanna see it again, it fuckin kicked ass.
