This new marvel is nuts. Well, not that nuts. But it's one of the better Marvels in a while. This one's about a little anti-hero loser squad of supporting characters from other movies coming together to do some stuff.
The sentry is in this, and they somehow made him kind of likable and cool. Mostly by dropping some of the more convoluted aspects of the comic book version. He's no longer a "forgotten cornerstone of the Marvel universe who was totally here the whole time and also banged Rogue" (if you don't know what I'm talking about, consider yourself lucky), he's just a regular schmuck with super powers, and mental problems. They streamlined him a bit. The character works better here than he ever has.
He looks hella-neat in the suit, and his void powers look even cooler. I really had no idea where this movie was going or what to expect, All the Sentry stuff surprised me and the the effect when he starts going on a rampage near the end is gnarly.
The flick is ultimately a bit heavy handed with it's themes, but Hell, at least it has themes. It's trying, and for a phase 19 Marvel movie, that's good enough. Sure it's basically just Marvel's late attempt at doing a Suicide Squad, with a climax that is essentially a re-do of the part in Guardians 1 where they all hold hands. So it's not a mindblower or anything, big deal. I liked it.
