"Birdsong Chapter 1" preview

Since all my stuff is either short-format banging or, like, modern contemporary romance, I haven't really had a chance to dive into lovely descriptiveness like I've wanted. This story, commissioned by Askia, is going to be a multi-part post-apocalyptic romantic drama inspired by the super cute webcomic "The Angel in the Forest".
Maybe it's too richly descriptive? Who knows. Let me have my fun. :^)
Instead of the usual dry, dusty, dead world that I've seen so often in other apocalypse settings, for this one we decided to make it a world where plant life has completely overtaken just about everything else; the city in which the story takes place is really more of a deep jungle than an urban environment. It's also unclear how long ago "the apocalypse" happened: those trees need a long-ass time to grow to their full height, and there's lots of them there.
Also! As I also said last night, I've added the Weekly Worldbuilding thing as $7 tier. If y'all wanna shift up to it before I get to it, that's now open; those of you on at least $10, you'll see 'em anyway. I'm planning to start uploading them Mondays, I think.
