Video Link Debacle

Hey everyone!

I hope all is well. I'd like to address and crowd source suggestions for the Video Link Debacle. It's been a tedious and frustrating process to send the links out instead of posting them on the posts, and I'm sure some of you are frustrated as well. I started sending the links via DM to protect my content from a website called Kemeno Party. This website uses patreon cookies to steal posts, and so far sending out the links is the only way I've gotten around it. I've been thinking about having one big MEGA link with all the videos, but this is somewhat of risk as well. Maybe I could do that and send out the password via DM?

What do you all think?

Just use discord. This method is awful.

Yeah, you do need to always watermark your work. Back in the day when PH was less responsible. I found a few artist off of it and then since I knew there username I could actually pay for their content. So yeah your never going to stop all of it but the amount that does get leaked at least it is advertising for those willing to pay for more.

Thank you all for suggestions, I've decided to create one big link with a periodically changing password. I've pinned the link to the top, and sent everyone the password!

You have to 'price in' piracy as a part of your cost of doing business. You will never prevent it entirely. All you can do is administer your content in such a way to disincentivize piracy as much as possible without frustrating people who are willing to pay for your content. The way to do that is by controlling the levels of price, and security. In terms of security: On Patreon, this usually means hosting content on a third party platform. For most creators on Patreon that platform is MEGA at the moment. I think on mega you can do some sort of hashing code that comes along at the end of a link to prevent that sort of high level data trawling. On top of that I think you can periodically change the password within the post on Patreon, such that current subs can access it, but people who have just collected the link at some point in the past cannot. There may be other third party hosting platforms that you may want to check out. Go do some reading on reddit. You are not the first person to ask this question. Respectfully, you must also accept that there is a percentage of people who will never pay you for your content. Period. It is unfair, but it is a fact of life of being a content creator. Ultimately, you have to do the work and decide who among the pirates you can recruit into your paying customer base, given some right set of incentives/disincentives. My take: Use MEGA exclusively. Add watermarks to your work so even if they do pirate it, they have to know who made it. You will push away so many people if you make them do extra work for the content. Personally, I hate having to wait for people to send me DMs to get to stuff. I never check it and its bad for people who come in the future who you need to personally administer to. It's unsustainable.

Honestly from what I've about the learned about the Internet you can never stop people from pirating content. Sure you can add layers and make it more difficult to do so but ultimately the people who don't want to pay and watch your content will. Where there's is a will there's a way as they say. One way many content creators look at it as free publicity and honest people from those groups like kemono that like your content will support your work. As with most things online this is just my opinion do with it what you wil, ultimately the choice is yours.

Sounds cool just be sure it's rather simple for some of those who don't understand computers the best but love your videos

Send them all in one mega folder then. Send the passwords in the dms. But you can’t stop all your art theft so you’ll have to let the risk happen.

You could use discord, for posting the links if your hoping to keep them off Patreon
