Just a little note, I’m currently working on backgrounds more and studying anatomy on the side. I tried to freehand the building you see in the 3rd pic and boy I immediately knew something was off about it so I just tried to trace it and i learned a lot from tracing!!
Before I went off to try perspective grids, I researched other artists to see how they used their grids. i watched how they started with the grid and how they would use it for bigger and smaller objects.
I already know how perspective works and how to use a perspective grid but I wanted to learn more about them!
So I used the grid to draw the city you see in the first.
This just taught me, or rather, retaught me that i shouldnt just try to go from 0 to 100.
So I started off with tracing then moved to researching about perspective grids, then using the grid and if I want to, I can then try freehanding it!
So I think that’s something anyone can learn from. If you’re having trouble with it, trace, use guidelines, whatever you have to do to understand. Then when you feel like you are ready or want to tackle a thing, then try freehand drawing it! I guarantee it works for almost all subjects! People and backgrounds!
