Understanding my work

I do my best to stay positive and forward thinking despite whatever negativity surrounds me. I've mentioned before the goal of this hermit phase I'll hopefully be wrapping up soon was to better understand the nature of pain and trauma and how they manifest themselves in our communities. It required me to dive headfirst into some of the worst possible places that most of us try to pretend don't even exist. Facing it is just too exhausting and seemingly impossible to resolve.  

This small slice of our communities is made up of individuals who could not beat the onslaught of emotional trauma they suffered. It exists like a wound in our societies that simply won't heal. You may recognize them by the deformed shapes of their bodies, their inability to communicate language effectively, and most commonly homelessness and drug abuse.

These are the sufferers of the most extreme child abuse. Violence towards infants although rare, still exists. And the scar it leaves on the autonomic nervous system is damning this individual's life to the worst kind of hell. They become their own worst enemy, often sabotaging themselves and lashing out at those who mean to help them most. 

I could go on and on about what I learned about how the autonomic nervous system and central nerves systems work together and grow together, and how the traumatic experiences we have cause these two systems to misunderstand each other and even feel as if they have an adversarial relationship. But I'll spare you.

Ultimately, My work both with and without a piano involves basically calming people down and helping them take a breather from the constant state of panic their unfortunate pasts cage them in. 

From there they can accept care from people who will be the most beneficial for them. From there they do the rest.
