BRINGING THE HORROR TO DELTA GREEN

Those choices that manufacture horror at the game table — what generates fear and

terror— I've found, can be elusive to many Handlers. Clearly, for Delta Green Handler's,

this is a vital skill to develop and hone, and, based on a common theme on posts I've

seen, more than a few have a hard time knowing where to start. It's not surprising, it's

difficult to generate any feeling under any circumstances at a game table.

I always try to think of the 'Man is the Most Dangerous Threat' side of things when imagining the mythos. To me, the horror in After Math (20XX-) is not that we are on the threshold of some terrible fate but that we long ago saw a threat on the horizon and failed to adapt, a scenario that echoes real concerns about global climate change. Without the adequate tools and processes to address the unnatural in a systematic fashion, a goal Delta Green fell far short of, rather ironically we end up suffering the same fate of extinction at the hands of an apex predator that we subjected many species to.

I think the main obstacles for are that we play over foundry which makes it hard for me to gauge the table and modulate tone and pace to it and that we play in Danish so by necessity we’re hampered by my translation that I’m sure leaves something to be desired. I don’t tend to change huge things in the scenarios you guys make. I do trust you. What I mostly do is adapt the intro to fit our situation and player characters but even that, I do as hands off as I can. So I don’t often nail it but it’s great when it does happen. I’ll save this post here and read it as I get closer to our next game again.

Like a pachinko machine is a great analogy.

I was running Impossible Landscapes last night and texted my player as Ed Wist from a fake number. He stood straight up and literally screamed hahah, best horror reaction ever
