An ancient force of evil that can enter into a human host through the pronunciation of its name, thought to have been first rendered in the Akkadian language sometime in the second millennia BCE in Babylon. Its name: ES-SO-GOL-NA-EK means literally "the god whose head has been removed," in Akkadian.
Descriptions of this entity in historical documents are understandably sparse, and where its name was rendered, it is often struck out...to prevent further infection. Several later outbreaks of this being are noted in the margins of Greek, Phrygian, Scythian, Egyptian and even later, Roman records and history. After that, it vanishes from identified records until the 19th century, where it appears again in some spiritualist works that have gained a well-earned reputation as "haunted" books.
