Its name: ES-SO-GOL-NA-EK means literally "the god whose head has been removed," in Akkadian.
Descriptions of this entity in historical documents are understandably sparse, and where its name was rendered, it is often struck out...to prevent further infection. Several later outbreaks of this being are noted in the margins of Greek, Phrygian, Scythian, Egyptian and even later, Roman records and history. After that, it vanishes from identified records until the 19th century, where it appears again in some spiritualist works that have gained a well-earned reputation as "haunted" books.

Probably just because I'm in the middle of a Twin Peaks rewatch but this vibes wonderfully with BOB and the other creatures of the Black Lodge. Always loved Ol' Mouths For Hands and I like that this doesn't necessarily involve the horrible sex stuff, but could include it as part of a rich buffet of human evil.
