January Mid-Month Newsletter

Hey Everyone,

This has been a super busy and productive month. New models (of course), a new store with a patron discount, an awesome special arrangement for next month's models and a new discord server! Here's a look at the last month in the Dorkfactory.

The Deadzone Patrolbot

I could not be happier with how this month's models turned out. I wanted to make something that looked like a prototype vehicle with lots of visible machine parts. The Deadzone Patrolbot is my first go at virtual kitbashing and wow -- I really like this method of 3D modelling.
Version 1 is what you see painted above, but I decided to make a bunch more options for arms and extra parts. I am really pumped to print and paint the model pictured in the middle of the image below (!!!). 

With my Elegoo Mars one of these guys' pre-supported parts fit on a single plate and it only takes about 5 hours to print so I'm probably going to have about 10 of them before long.

New store and Patron Discount Code

The Dorkfactory is officially on MyMiniFactory! It's about exactly the same setup as the existing Cults3D store but with MMF I can offer discount codes for patrons! Both stores will be continue to be open but I'm probably going to start referring to MMF more often as they do offer a few really awesome additional features. Right now there are a few models still in the approval process (which sometimes happens overnight, sometimes takes a bit longer) so if you go there and don't see something you're looking for it will be there soon. 

New Dorkfactory Discord Server

The discord server was started with the intention of being a place for tips and troubleshooting on printing DF miniatures but so far it's just been a cool place to chat with other hobbyists and creators. Feel free to post your latest hobby projects there (just don't spam it with ads please :). It's a young server but it's been fun so far.

Next Month's Models

I'm super excited to get going on next month's models. This month's vote was between 3 different character designs by Richard Saunders. I really like Richard's unique sci-fi style and I think it translates well to my sculpting style, so is gonna be a fun one. The vote was actually a tie and I had a really hard time deciding which option to go with but I've finally chosen this badass feminine warrior alien. I'll be starting this one in a couple days so keep an eye out for updates here and on the Instagram account.

Well that's about it for this month but there is a ton more to come in the near future. One really big announcement in particular is on the horizon...
