Olivia Rodrigo Live + Tiny Desk Reaction

So last night I uploaded the wrong video that's why I deleted it right away. Sorry about that. Anyway, here is the right reaction.

Olivia Rodrigo Live + Tiny Desk Reaction

I get what you're saying, and I half agree. Again I'm a fan and I don't discount her talent. But to argue that it's a little more than a single sample .. No she wasn't sued, but she and her team retroactively gave writing credits after facing significant backlash. And if it was one sample? Cool, nbd. But to sample 2 Swift songs, one Paramore song, one Elvis Costello song and the art direction of an unknown indie band is waaay too much imo for one album and your debut album at that ... seems an awful lot like artistic theft at that point, rather than her coming up with her own styles and melodies. I really like her stuff, but using 4 melodies from 3 different artists on one album leaves a bad taste in my mouth for her that I have trouble getting over.

The Saturday Night Live version of good 4 you was so good, but I hate the mixing of audio seems really messed up. She seems so quiet compared to the music. But honestly, her live performances are amazing overall. She does sound so similar, if not better then the studio which just shows her talent.

well olivia chose to sample tswift which im sure you know, and she wasnt really sued, her label just didn't want to fight because she was a new artist. she didn't have to do anything. if she was sued and it went to court, im sure the case would have been dismissed because all every one hears is a similar chord progression and you can't copyright a chord progression. hope this doesn't come off as rude just wanted to shed some light

I have a love/hate relationship w Olivia. On the one hand, she is incredibly talented, her songs are FIRE and I love them. On the other, it's sort of bad form imo to "borrow" so heavily from other artists. I'm all for sampling and inspiration, etc, but if you've borrowed so heavily that you have to PAY other artists, like Paramore and T. Swift, that's approaching theft territory. Idk, I try to get past it but it's difficult. I second Sabrina Carpenter!! I'd never heard of her until her latest album and it was one of my favorites of the year, 'Skinny Dipping' is GLORIOUS. I'm a huge JP Saxe fan though (another artist you should check out Jim). His cowriting is very evident in some of Sabrina's songs.

Lol Maybe. The Live performances, especially the Tiny Desk, sold me.

I remember listening to Sour last year sometime and thinking it was pretty good, but now watching these live performances I'm like... super into it?? Jim are you gonna make me a Olivia stan haha??
