Taylor Swift All Too Well - Behind The Scenes / Interview / Fan Theories

Today I'm taking a deeper dive into one of my favorite Taylor Swift tracks All Too Well. First, we take a look at Taylors hands on approach to directing. Then We learn about the history of the song and the Lasik incident lol. Then we finish off with fan theories about who the song is about and bonus lyrics.

Part of what we do here is learn more about the artists themselves. If there is a certain Documentary, Interview or Compilation you would like me to cover just let me know.

Up next is the 2020 Miss Americana film.

If you’re not already a fan, I’d love to see reactions to Harry styles too!

Taylor wrote about grooming but it's about john mayor when she was 19 and he is 33 and the song about this says it clearly I think with Jake he the age difference little disturbing but not that bad he was just seems like an ahssole

Reema !

Thanks for the Taylor reactions Jim. I appreciate the open mindedness and the thoughtful way you speak. I've pretty much been a Swiftie since the beginning, but like someone else said, I don't do the detective thing. I think Taylor is just an amazing songwriter, storyteller. singer, and really just a genuine person. I wouldn't have any interest if she appeared to be a phony egomaniac. Looking forward to your next reactions.

I agree with every point! These interviews are so funny!

I think it’s natural for people to wanna get the “juicy bits” when a popular singer/songwriter writes about their life and relationships, and Taylor knows this and obviously plays with it. She writes from a real place and treats her art like it’s a diary, which is very brave to do. But I personally think it’s sad when people focus on that more than the actual art. Artists often use their experiences as a inspiration, and while it’s interesting to see what inspired them, I think it’s a lot more interesting to see how they did it, and the results of it. There’s a really good “director on director” interview with Taylor where she talks about how she made the All Too Well short movie, a lot more interesting than this more gossipy video. And like everyone else mentioned, the Miss America is such a good documentary. It gives a good look at Taylor’s life while focusing more on her art and her state of mind, instead of the tabloid stuff that goes around. So can’t wait for you to react to that. Keep up the good work!

Honestly I love the interviews that she does with jimmy, they’re funny and they are really interesting bc she talks about her music in every one, I definitely think it would be fun to do more reactions to those! And her graham norton and ellen (who is awful but taylor has been on there so many times) are also fun too!

I loved your reaction to the interview with Jimmy, only two are very good friends and their interviews together are always very funny. I can't wait to see your reaction to Miss Americana, I'm sure you will love this documentary and it will certainly help you better understand her as an artist and a person. To understand even more the ATW video creation process in my opinion you should watch her interview at the Toronto Film Festival in 2022, she talked a lot about the short film and it was very interesting

I'm so happy I signed up for your patreon, I appreciate the way you talk about Taylor and how you react to things. I've been a fan of Taylor for many many years and it's cool to follow your journey into her music, it's fun getting the experience of seeing it all through new/your eyes! Can't waaaait for Miss Americana, really looking forward to it!

Oh, and if you want to put any of this on YouTube, maybe excerpt just the reaction to the Behind the Scenes video? I think that part is safe for YouTube and not invasive. The Jimmy Fallon part would definitely get copyright blocked!

There’s still a certain.. perhaps.. electric touch;) pressing the lil icon to become 13th like for any post even remotely related to Taylor Swift lol. Feels like a very good omen to start off release/independence day for Speak Now TV <3 hope the patreon display glitched a bit and blessed others too hehe.. Another great vid & so looking forward to Miss Americana next!

Great video! And I'm SUPER excited for Ms. Americana! Like, I literally cannot wait. Jake himself said something very astute after the All Too Well 10-minute version was released. In an Esquire interview, when asked about the song, he said: “It has nothing to do with me. It's about her relationship with her fans." I totally agree with that take! She put out the 10-minute version for the fans. She doesn't care about Jake anymore; and has said countless times at shows that her fans turned that song into something else for her. She used to be sad about it, but now she loves playing it and hearing her fans scream the lyrics. The entire thing -- the 10-minute version and short film -- are dedications to her fans, who knew the 10-minute version existed and have been asking for it for years! And one more tidbit! In her interview at the Toronto Film Festival in 2022, she talked a lot about the short film and the meaning behind much of the symbolism, down the lighting, etc. Something very interesting is that she said she considered the male character to be a "protagonist" in the story, too -- because he impacted the female "character" so significantly, and not just negatively! But also in a positive way. She explains that the red typewriter she was typing on the film -- that he gave her that typewriter and inspired her to become a writer (author = songwriter). If we think about it in real life, he inspired her to write the album "Red" which is a lyrical masterpiece. It wasn't just that he "scarred" her -- he left a legacy in other ways, too. In the film, in her apartment later in life, we see that she has both blue and yellow lights in her apartment. She takes a piece of him with her.

I agree about the gossip video, its just too invasive, especially when artists have asked for us to stay out of their personal lives. I would recommend checking out her interview on Seth Meyers and if you want a joke song from Taylor, she did a song on SNL called Three Sad Virgins that is pretty funny.
