I learn about the history of Kpop.

As I dive deeper into my BTS journey and learn more about Kpop I figured it would be important to learn some of the histories. Then I take chats recommendations for First Gen Kpop acts.

What's your favorite First Gen Kpop artist?

I learn about the history of Kpop.

Thank you!

Hey Jim, I'm behind on your content so I'm not sure if you had suggestions or reacted to 1st generation KPOP yet? I tried to find videos with better quality as they're so old. I remember having short clips on floppy disks and some on burnt CDs back when dial up internet was a thing in Australia still. Ihave suggested a couple of the big songs with english subtitles. H.O.T - we are the future *warning first scene is a girl about to jump off a building. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ8twlFOaWU SES Im your girl (stage mix) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92Esw8vUilw Lee Jung Hyun - WA! This is asian techno but an iconic song, thought I'd throw this in.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ME3b9a1FoAQ You must at least check out the first song.:) Enjoy!! Thao

She is an amazing ARMY.... makes me proud to hear her discuss BTS

That's so sad

Thank you! I def check them out and do whatever kind of support I can.

Sad but true - jumping into the Han river seems to be a common choice of those who wish to leave the world. The bridges now have uplifting quotes, and phones to call for help - but the life of the boat men that have to collect the bodies is hard. Two very good documentaries on the subject are - On Patrol with South Korea's Suicide Rescue Team https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jYBWBlEd0U and Academic Pressure Pushing S. Korean Students To Suicide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXswlCa7dug

THESE WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR JOURNEY _ BUT YOU NEED TO WATCH THESE - esp. with your background!! Seo Taiji X BTS - Come Back Home - Gangsta Rap https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0T6MVYxC8s Seo Taiji X BTS - Classroom Ideas - Heavy Metal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdswxGURNmo These are 2 of my all time favourite songs with BTS.,,, Their cover of "come back home" during 4th muster is truly epic - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dYxgPGfjkg I get these links from Enjoy BTS More channel - she has most of their epic live performances with subs. She ensures the subtitles are correct and gets the best audio/video. Please support her channel if you can - she is an ARMY who does this for love.

I also wanted to share that, it is the link of a youtube video with professor Jiyoung Lee, who majored in philosophy, and who is a fan of BTS and author of "BTS Arts Revolution". This is why BTS fans call her "Teachers' Army". In this video, she brings some interesting points about BTS to Koreans who like you don't know BTS well. It's really nice and if you want to react to it possibly in the future. Full video (50 min): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uaj1X76h2mQ

You can watch it in here https://www5.dramacool.sk/i-land-episode-1.html but the official one with best quality is in weverse but U have to purchase it for 20 $ for all 13 episodes. And i dont know if it allows Screen recording but i know others have done reactions to it via weverse🤔

Don't call me.

Yeah that sounds fun! Do you have a link?

Would u be interested in watching a survival program. One that was less controversial and in my opinion one of the best that i have seen is I-Land which brought us the group enhypen! I think especially now, that u don't recognize the members yet, it would still be cool to See your reaction.

Don't call me.

There is so much debate about each generation, how they are delimited ... Super M is really an attempt by the Big 3 to compete with BTS, they picked the most popular and talented members of the major idol groups, that's the K-pop Avengers of sorts. And, despite some popularity, they failed to gain a global foothold the way they wanted, BTS remains the only ones at this point. I think K-pop still has a bright future ahead of them, the success of BTS is only growing, even though it's almost 10 years, so that guarantees an attention to the genre and it allows people then to discover the rest of k-pop. Also, the artists under HYBE are very popular, whether it is Enhypen which little by little manages to compete with their big brothers TXT, and TXT which follows the path of BTS, slowly but surely having lately been the only group (except also BTS) to be nominated for the People's Choice Awards. And Seventeen who have been successful on the billboard charts (except Hot 100) lately. Yes, HYBE artists are growing in popularity, especially globally and in the American industry. Without forgetting that other groups which push the same efforts which are part of the 3rd generation and which are still there, like NCT (which made new records at billboard 200 with their last album), Monsta X (which are now used to doing festivals in the US, with big American stars), BlackPink (which is the most famous girl group globally), Twice (which continues and, recently, they managed to enter the Billboard hot 100 at the spot number 83), Mamamoo (who also comes from a small company, like BTS, but who managed to settle in the landscape). And the new groups of the 4th generation, like Stray Kids which today are perhaps the most popular group of this generation, without forgetting therefore TXT, Enhypen, and then Ateez which have an international popularity, The Boyz which are making their way slowly but surely, Aespa who is surely the group that can potentially surpass BlackPink, without forgetting Itzy who also recently managed to enter the Billboard 200 for the first time in their career. There are still good days, especially with BTS which keeps the attention and allows thoses groups to attract a larger audience so that they forge their paths. Another boy group will soon start this year under HYBE, and again HYBE and Universal Music Group (UMG) have announced plans to launch a new girl group that will be based in the US. HYBE will work in partnership with Geffen Records to find new female trainees for the band, who will be put through the K-pop training and development system. Other girl groups, nine to date, especially under YG and JYP will also see the light of day. So it's interesting for you to see the development of this genre coming.

Wow I had no idea! Thanks for sharing that info.

Funny how Gangnam Style made the world think kpop was frivolous nonsensical bubble gum pop when the song is also a satirical commentary on social classes. And Psy has always been a rebel whose music was often considered controversial and often banned from the under-19 set. In Korea, he’s not just that funny man doing a silly dance though he does bank on his humor when he makes his videos and choreography. Still, he’s deemed as an artist with something important to say.

You should react to Seo Taji 25th anniversary concert he did with BTS! It’s amazing! https://youtu.be/yU6h08srHt8

Thank you! I'm going to start organizing so I can react to them in order.

theres a trilogy of videos that like continue from bts vs kpop and he goes deeper into how american/western media speak about kpop it may seem at first a whataboutism but if you react to all 3 his points will make more sense theyre "youre wrong about kpop, the media is wrong about kpop, kpop vs orientalism" then theres solo videos on different topics like kpopstansareoverparty a response video, the bts coronavirus tweet, billboard vs bts. besides the ones i mentioned the rest of his longer videos are on different topics unrelated to bts or kpop or theyre live streams where he discusses different topics for 3-4 hours so probably not reaction worthy unless you wanna react to them thats up to you. he brings different armys and other people on to talk about those subjects too.

bbygangs videos are fantastic. I will definitely be continuing. Do you have certain videos you recommend? I think I'm going to have to explore more of Seo Tai Ji. Thanks for the input and info.

you should continue with bbygangs videos on bts and kpop he has many videos that explain a lot in details you only reacted to bts vs kpop but he has many others too. also while these artists are "the first" theyre not the pioneers. seo tai ji is the pioneer then BOA in japan and BTS in u.s all the other artists are great and influential but they didnt pave the way the way bts, boa, and seo tai ji did. its very easy to see because seo tai ji passed the torch down to bts. hes the one who started everything before the corporates and 100s of labels and idols. so if he thought someone else deserved that title he wouldve given it to someone else but he waited over 20 years and gave it to bts in 2017. theres a lot of fights that happens between kpop fandoms and most 1st and 2nd and 3rd and 4th gen fans will disagree with me on that because most do not like bts or armys remember the hardships video? so yeah. but if we go by facts bts paved the way. if we go by what people want to be true then thell name 100s of other groups that didnt have the same large impact as bts. btw just wanna add before i get torched in the comments it doesnt mean none of these artists are talented or impactful in korea i like some of them they just didnt paved the way.
