Hey Ryan, just explored this, and it appears that it is a Wonderdraft thing that's happening with any and all assets (at least for me). Happens to me even on the default assets. I'll hop in Discord and see what everyone is saying about it, but I'd think Mega knows about it by now.

2019-12-12 00:08:35 +0000 UTCI'm having issues getting the folder to work in Wonderdraft. I use Mythkeeper to install assets, but I tried the method in the readme.txt file given with the download and I'm still having a problem with it.

2019-12-11 23:37:17 +0000 UTCIt seems to work best layering down the base color first. So like the color of the land around it. And then use the "Custom color picker" option to slightly darken the color to paint the dark parts of the assets. Also, make sure to use the "Alpha" channel and opacity so you can do subtle painting. I'm working on a "How to paint" video for the assets that I hope to have out this week. That should help a ton.
