LIttle Flames 0: full package

Ooh boy this was a long and difficult journey, but I'm glad I did it and I'm incredibly grateful that you supported me all the way. I mean this from the bottom of my heart - I wouldn't have been able to do this without your help, thank you, thank you so much!

I've got a few words to say, like always, because this is a learning process for me. This is the first time I've written something like this on my own, this was very novel to both draw and write. You'd not believe how different it actually is from my usual NSFW comics, it's not just the theme, it's the whole approach. Though I will say that my past experience made this work possible in the first place, I actually was delaying this project for a couple of years. I wanted to get better at my craft first.

Though I did try to at least set some ground - in the extras I've put the OG pages I made when I first started thinking about this idea. Originally, this was how I wanted the first chapter to start - just jump right at the explosion and begin the story from there. When I was about to begin the work seriously this year, I was still considering to do the same, that could have made the story kick in faster, less work for me too. But I knew that doing things this way would rob the story of it's starting point. I figured, before I want to move characters to each other, I need to first establish where they're moving from, the proper "A" point. So I wrote this little adventure to establish as much as I could. I'll be honest it turned out a lot more packed than I thought it would :D

I am, though, pretty happy with the results at the moment, I had to juggle several story lines at once, and that was weirdly not difficult. The toughest task was not to put too much in, to be honest. As a shonen fan, I love adventures to be long and packed with character moments, growth, world building! If this wasn't about Sonic and Shadow's romance first and adventure second, I would have made it a whole arc :D I'm sure you can see that by how stuffed and dense some of the pages are, and that was me trying to find that balance and keep my priorities right. I think there are ways to make it less packed, but at the moment I did what I could. I'll definitely be learning from this.

Drawing-wise it was the toughest - with me still not being quite familiar enough with action stuff, a lot of panels would take me too long, I had to often look at action manga for study, and... Omega. Every single time I had to draw anything Omega related I NEEDED to have his 3D model on my screen to look at, I even have it bookmarked :D I think I've finally learned how to draw him, but doing so is still terrifying every single time. I do want to overcome that, I love Omega, he's a bomb of a character.

Action blur is something I always think I have a grasp on, but again - every single time I come in to clean it up, I struggle. This seems to become easier the more I do it though, I guess I'm starting to pick up on the method there. Same for the solid black filling - after being afraid of doing it for years now I'm getting comfortable with it, I'm getting used to planning it requires. With time I want to use it more on the backgrounds and on more characters. I love how Shadow looks with that colouring, he just pops >w<

And, of course, all the comedic moments and all those faces. That's too much fun to do, I would die at my desk drawing every single one of them :D I don't get to draw the stuff often, but it feels weirdly easy and just too much fun. I love jokes and in a comic characters' faces can make or break jokes, I really wanted them to work, so I gave it all I had. I'm going off of my personal tastes here and some stuff that I've learned, and it warms my heart when I see others laugh at my jokes, makes me feel like I did a good job. I will of course work to improve on that, I've got plenty of ideas for the future chapters and non-related comics too >w<

I will continue Little Flames after a little break. I've got a special comic planned to mix things up, I'll share details about it on my next comic-related post. I'm excited about this and I hope you'll be too, so stay tuned >w<
