For Sailor Mercury's birthday in September, I had to start earlier than usual. That's because I wanted to try my hand at some more advanced frame-by-frame animation.
It was only a year ago when I started experimenting with animation in my works. Because it's so hard, I only use it occasionally to add some eye movements and bubble effects. Fully animating body movement is still intimidating.
But I want to figure it out, so I came up with a simple Sailor Mercury jumping animation. It was rotoscoped using 4 key 3D poses. I then expanded those 4 key frames into 15, tweaking each one so it looks like she's bouncing.
I also extracted one frame and cleaned it up, so it can be a standalone rendered piece. I love how cute Ami looks here!
Enjoy!
