The sequencing on this album is superb, the way the songs flow into each other - e.g. the way the gospel-tinged cries of 'No no' at the end of 'Living for the city' segue into the warm opening piano chords at the beginning of 'Golden Lady' - gives me goosebumps.

2023-03-24 08:41:59 +0000 UTCAnd (LOL) another thing: Even though this album was Stevie's introduction to synths, many of the best tracks are the perfect examples of keeping it simple and leaning into the few instruments that are featured. On "Don't You Worry", it's just piano, bass, drums, percussion and Stevie. That's IT. And on Living for the City", it's all synths and drums, with Stevie providing the lead and bvox overdubs. I'm really looking forward to that interview with Robert Margouleff.
