An absolute gold mine of songs to discover for you guys. Van the Man is the original Irish Soul Singer. And to date, there's still only one of those on the planet. Think Jackie Wilson meets William Butler Yeats with James Joyce on guitar. I'd recommend first working through some of his wonderful R&B stuff e.g. "Domino" - "These Dreams of You" - "Come Running" etc. and his makes you feel good to be alive stuff like "And It Stoned Me". From there move onto a full album review (NOT yet Astral Weeks) such as St. Dominic's Review, Wavelength - maybe "A Sense of Wonder" (you might be getting ahead of yourselves there) etc. And then for the main course - look at the full video of the Astral Weeks concert recorded at the Hollywood Bowl. THAT is a master class of musicianship on the stage - no one gets near being a member of a Van Morrison live ensemble without knowing how to turn their instrument into a vehicle of transport . . . into the mystic.
