The band members were all huge monte python fans AND the entire album was a very conscious jab at the over-blown pretentious lyrics common in other progressive rock tracks. Don’t work too hard at trying to find great meaning or messages in Thick as a Brick. They were literally saying to themselves “Oh, and we need a line about the sun, and maybe something about war and believing,” and so on. There’s a huge hint about this in the very first line, “I really don’t mind that you sit this one out.” It’s Ian’s way of saying, “Look, this is all just gibberish, so I won’t be offended if you just skip it altogether.”
