The next steps

Hey folks,

it is time for one of these again. As some of you noticed I made a deep dive into unreal - mainly to be better prepared to create content that touches unreal.

I went a bit further down the rabbit hole than was needed.  This opens up many opportunities for the future - problem is that I have yet so much stuff to do and to show. I need to prioritize.

And obviously ou guys should have a say in the direction or at least the order of steps. Often I do all of it anyway. :)

First there is the problem child - The Railsystem. There is the whole modelling section, python state, train and procedural animation that was not released. Especially the modelling section will take ages to record. But it would be too sad to leave it unfinished. So as a compromise I think it should change into a breakdown where I go through the steps, explain what I did and why - but don't create the nodes from scratch.

In addition to video I think it makes sense to clean the final file and make it available to you as well. If you were interested in sections you can go right to it. Questions could be discussed on the discord.

For the Unreal section - there is now even more that I could show you. But still - the first project should be the street layout I think. But then we could go deeper into many directions in the game developement world.

I am preparing a short video about how I can bring in the scifi crate from Houdini to Unreal, includeing Substance textures, open and close animations, prep a pivot painter effect and then bring it all together in Unreal. There i use C++ and Blueprints to let the player build the crate, play a material effect and allow Interaction. But all of that will be short and quick. Not showing the details but the general approach. For Patreon you could request a more detailled approach.

Then there are other things waiting to be done. After being down I salvaged the page and I could a bit of time into making it at least be that Media Hub again. Meaning you could watch all content there and find all project files and HDAs in a more organized manner.

Last but not least there is tool developement that could be interesting. Improvements, new features, more entries in the library etc.

So let's hear it. What would be the most interesting to you?

I also enjoy reading your comments about what you want to see here.

Cheers

Dave
