Yeah, it's not so much to appeal to the west as it is to satisfy their own beauty standards. I believe it ties back to the olden days where royalty had fair skin and stayed indoors while peasants worked under the sun all day.
I remember recently seeing Jihyo replying to someone on bubble asking her to stop tanning and she replied that she doesn't want to or something to that effect. I imagine idols have to deal with comments like that and much worse all the time.

That just sounds insane to me...my goodness. I've never heard anything like that. Everything I see on Twitter is basically about how they're trying to make idols look white so they'll appeal more internationally to America, Europe, etc...it's so stupid. I can't wrap my head around the explanation you gave. I believe you, it just sounds nuts.

I agree that her styling on this show has been great. She looks like she's going to an awards cerimony on the next one lol
About the skin tone thing, it's actually the other way around, it's the show that uses an odd color grading on their footage which tones down the color temperature and makes everyone look very pale. You can see the comparison side by side at the beginning of your video at 4:45, her sweater is bright red but it looks closer to dark orange on the show.
I won't get too much into it here, but a lot of fans outside of Korea are generally not onboard with the way they try to make everyone look artifically super pale, there is a deeply rooted cultural aspect in Korea that equates skin whiteness with higher class status and beauty which can lead into discrimination, harassment and mental problems for those that don't conform. It's complicated.

Yeah, I remember Eunkwang being the corny one in WI. He was the one that did the Ugly Dance with Jeongyeon...I believe.

Oh! and Generation MZ, or MZers, is a term used in South Korea to describe the combination of Millennials and Generation Z ๐

BTOB was also on the Anniversary episode of Weekly Idol along with TWICE, G-Friend and GOT 7 back in 2015. (Epi 261-262) / Eunkwang is a great comedian apart from being an awesome vocalist๐๐ / the group that you were referring to was SEVENTEEN, where Boo Seungkwan also cleaned Boo's poo in a resto ๐๐
