Kitsch is an OG German word previously used to describe art, objects, or design considered to be in poor taste because of excessive garishness or sentimentality. Worthless, trashy art. But in recent years, it means loving the aesthetics of old style, old-school culture that we may consider really cool & nostalgic. At times considered as quaint or "quirky" without being offensive. While it typically carries a negative connotation, it can be used to express appreciation for charmingly nostalgic or whimsical qualities.
