Skinner describes Space Mutant V: A Land Down Under as the worst film he's ever seen, I wonder how much of a movie buff he is. When he finds himself in a direct reference to "Psycho" or "Apocalypse Now" or whatever, does he appreciate how close it is to existing movies?
Do these movies even exist within the world of The Simpsons? Or is it just Space Mutants across the entire media landscape? How much of pop culture do we share with Springfield? The Simpsons is a cornerstone of American entertainment, a landmark in the way TV and animation have developed - I assume that the TV show "The Simpsons" doesn't exist within "The Simpsons", so is their approach to media completely different from ours altogether?

Star Wars canonically exists but also Marge and Homer saw Empire Strikes Back in theatres. Same with Avengers existing but also Stan Lee. It gets confusing!

2025-02-28 17:10:01 +0000 UTCThere are other movies in their world like Cosmic Wars and Vindicators, clearly having to make up parodies of them because Star Wars and Avengers canonically exist as real people in their world. Although there are some parallels, like how Vindicators also have an Uncle Ben, but he’s evil.
